Last week I attended the INK Conference which is an annual celebration of thinkers and doers from diverse walks of life. World’s visionaries gather under one roof for a cross-pollination of ideas and chance encounters for the next big breakthrough.

A 3-day event to celebrate successful milestones of the community’s journey, the change-makers from every walk of life also share their stories, ideas and perspectives; an ‘intellectual Mardi Gras’ of a kind.
INK happened in Mumbai this year with a fetching theme of 'Beyond Boundaries'.

I was invited by Dell India which partnered with INK 2014 to attend the sessions and the knowledge that I could take back from them was an enriching one. Some of the key sessions this year were:

Vivek Wadhwa’s To Infinity & Beyond

Academic, Researcher, Writer, Entrepreneur Vivek Wadhwa began with a reality check for Indian companies saying that in today’s world technology was growing exponentially but the turnover of IT companies is not as high as Indian society believes. Wadha also spoke about the failings of the Indian Engineering system stating that “It doesn't matter where you went to school. What matter is your ideas & execution!”

Anupama Chopra’s Cosmic Journey

A film critic and book author who has written about the Hindi film industry since 1993, Chopra chatted about how she was never a film buff when young but was seduced by the film industry later. The most important quality according to her that every film critic should have is Integrity and she believes that they are “not in this business to make friends” illustrating her point, she said, “After I reviewed Salman's Bodyguard, I had to hire a Bodyguard myself.”

Kunal Bahl’s To Infinity & Beyond

Co-founder & CEO, Snapdeal.com, Kunal’s session was one of the most anticipated of INK2014. He started the session with a quote from Batman that has helped him in his journey with Snapdeal "Why do we fall? So we can pick ourselves up". He said, “We started Mobile coupons, it failed. We started discount coupons, it failed. Rohit and I were left with 20000 INR in our savings account at some point. We learnt don’t do what your heart doesn't want you to."

The session by Dell India Marketing Manager, Tulsi Gurung on How to Create Your Brand on Social Media? was one of the most insightful and knowledge sharing sessions. #DellAtINKLive

As a Social Marketer, of the numerous take back from the session, some points that have stayed with me are outlined below.
  • The focal point of building your brand should be to build perception whilst being as human and as true to yourself as possible.
  • Look out and connect with mentors, not one but loads. Everyone has something unique to offer.
  • Work hard at Building Relationships and then work harder to stay connected. It's not only about increasing the numbers, it more about creating an engagement.
  • Be on many networks; and talk to each differently. The catch is to join the new emerging networks when they are launched; to grow with them.
  • Content marketing is now much bigger than ever, what you create will be consumed sometime by somebody in the future, even it is missed now. It is imperative to keep in mind that it is easy to create content, but the tough part is to censor what to publish. Remember one thing, Google never forgets anything.
  • Sometimes it is better to keep silent if you do not have anything constructive to tell.
  • Talk through social media platforms just the way you would like to be spoken to, cause your brand is what people talk about it when you are not around.
  • There is a huge difference between E-commerce and Social Commerce. They are as diverse as chalk and cheese and for Social Commerce to pick up, it will take some time in India.
  • As a Social Marketer work on three aspects of the Social Media Strategy 1. The way you should treat your target audience 2. Ways to monetise social media 3. Tools to measure Social Media Activities. And the most important thing to remember here is that 'Return on Investment' does not only mean monetary returns, it also means the reach the activity is able to achieve and create additional brand awareness.
  • Last but not the least be ready to Invest time, effort and money into your social media activities as and when you need to, to grow your brand.
I'm soon going to request Dell India, for a one-on-one session with the knowledge powerhouse Tulsi to gain more insights of Social Media and tools to enhance the presence of my brand #iCynosure.

A fascinating event isn't it? Leave me your thoughts about #DellAtINKLive.

The INK 2014 Conference is scheduled in Mumbai from October 31st to November 2nd. The theme for INK2014 is 'Beyond Boundaries’

Dell India, India’s leading end-to-end technology solutions provider announces the launch of their ‘Dell Campassadors’ program and a strategic partnership with INKtalks, an organization which aims to inspire youth, particularly in emerging economies. The association was born out of Dell’s dedicated focus towards the college student community, who not only exhibit a dynamic use of personal technology but are also advocates for the adoption of new technologies. With this partnership, Dell aims to engage college students through campus ambassadors in a year-long conversation with Dell & INKtalks to foster a strong sense of social orientation and bring student communities together to share knowledge and ideas with peers and work on collaborative projects, all to prepare them for real-life challenges.

The INK Conference is an annual celebration of thinkers and doers from diverse walks of life.

World visionaries – CEOs, entrepreneurs, artists, technologists, scientists & more – gather under one roof for a cross-pollination of ideas and chance encounters for the next big breakthrough.

The conference is known for its exciting ideas, celebrates milestones and looks to the future innovations. The conference encourages interdisciplinary thinking where the opinions and ideas of scientists, artists, entrepreneurs and film-makers, to name a few come together on equal footing.

INK takes the audience on a fascinating journey to expand horizons. Find out more about the speakers here and watch a short video of the INK Conference below.

Dell has been very vocal among the student community and has successfully sustained annual programs such as ‘Back to College,’ an initiative to creatively empower college-going students both inside and outside the classroom by enabling students to seamlessly merge their offline and online lives. The tie-up with INKtalks is an extension of Dell’s Back to College initiative and reflects Dell’s continued focus and engagement with the youth. Dell has consistently engaged with the youth in the past, with initiatives like ‘Achieve with Dell’ and ‘I Can Do Kuch Bhi’ which inspired the youth to unlock possibilities and achieve their ambitions, using personal technology as an enabler.

Ritu Gupta, Marketing Director, Consumer and Small Business, Dell India said, “At Dell, we believe that technology is a key enabler for driving personal and professional growth. The college student community is on the cusp of realising their potential and as a brand, we are keen to help them take that next step towards becoming future leaders. We believe that our collaboration with INKtalks, an organization whose objectives align with ours, to motivate and inspire the youth, will help us engage students at their most energetic and aspirational growth stage. In addition, this platform is designed to provide the Dell Campassadors valuable exposure and learning opportunities to prepare them for real-world challenges. At Dell, we believe that equipped with direction, recognition and the power of technology, the youth can be enabled to further their goals and achieve personal brilliance.”

Lakshmi Pratury, Host and Curator, INKtalks said, "INKtalks is about opening up the imagination of the youth through stories and equip them to create an impact in the world around them.  We are thrilled to partner with Dell to take our ideas to the student community at large and get them involved in activities throughout the year.  We look forward to engaging with Dell Campassadors who will champion the interaction with their peers, thousands of students in campuses around the country, and catalyze their exposure to INKtalks to help them realising their imagination into an impact to the society. When we combine the technology outreach of Dell with the projects pioneered by INK, we will have a youth community that can use the technology to make a difference in the communities that they inhabit."

Dell Venue 7 Review
In my world of endless disasters, it's imperative that I find my superhero, someone who comes to my rescue and saves me. Someone like Batman, the Dark Knight.

In the year 1939, Batman first made his presence felt and immediately found a following amongst all. Over the years he has become the oh so popular and has flown out from the pages of the DC books into blockbuster movies and toy shop. With the Batman fever riding high today, DC Comics announced July 23rd as 'Batman Day' to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the iconic character. There are loads of offers flying around with publishers and various supply companies offering 'Bat-birthday' collectables and a brand new comic authored by Brad Meltzer.

In my small little corner in Mumbai, I have my very own Dark Knight saving me from the every day drama and epic disasters. My sweet little cutie pie Dell Venue 7 has proved every huge bulky powerful laptop wrong. My little knight in shining armour is not only pretty but also light on my hands, as quick as lightning  and as powerful as it's bigger cousins. It not only has a look that one can boast of with a slender form and amazing features but also compliments me adding glamour to my life.

The tablet is such a versatile piece adding so much to the lifestyle that I follow. From being the perfect cynosure of all eyes to a show-stopper fashion accessory to the most important and useful tool on the go, it is a lifesaver 'My Batman My Dark Knight'.

Here is a low down of what so special about it, apart from the usual highlights.
  • The stunning HD Screen allows a pixel to pixel detailing not only my favourite apps but the videos and movies I like to watch on the go.
  • The super slim device easily slides into the smallest and trimmest handbags, never weighing down my arm or shoulder.
  • The two-camera option is a sure shot winner for my professional goals and needs.
  • The battery life allows a whole-day utility without fussing overcharges and life-lines.
So in a nutshell, the Dell Venue 7 is an iconic baby with a powerhouse battery, dream-like design, paper thin, balloon light and available in breathtaking red and dynamic black.

Over the last few months, I've been attending numerous blogger events and it has been a fantastic development. I've been one of the most carefree, silly yet serious publishers of information being disbursed at the events, ensuring the right details reach my readers. However, I've noticed fellow bloggers lug around huge bags carrying numerous tools and when asked say those are imperative to being a blogger. And what strikes me odd is that instead of putting their hair down and enjoying themselves they sit grumpy recording, shooting and typing away furiously. I sometimes feel naive with just my small little handbag with no more than 5 things in it.

Just the other day I was at an event organised by a huge personal care brand with over 200 bloggers in attendance from all over the country. And yes you guessed it right .... all the bags were super huge. The meet was a bit different with loads of activities lined up a la 'Wipeout' style and I saw most of my colleagues shrug at the thought of carrying around their bags. Luckily for them, the PR agency got it all covered setting up a deposit counter for the bags. I decided to sling my clutch across my
shoulder and enjoy the games.

Soon we were divided into teams and I individually popped my team-members with the golden question..  "What all do you carry in that bag?" The answers were as diverse as chalk and cheese, but everyone had about 5-7 things that seemed really important to a publisher. Mobile Phone, Tablet/Laptop, Camera, Writing Instruments, Dongle, Video Camera, etc etc. made the cut into the handbags.

I wondered and peeped into my bag. Looking at the things inside I mentally ticked the boxes looking at one electronic gadget.
Dell Venue 7 Review
My newest possession, A Dell Venue 7

Apart from doubling up as a camera, video recorder and a laptop, the one positive feature that stands out about the Dell Tablet is its PocketCloud feature that allows remote access to my computer post installing client on the device and sharing files in cloud. Wow isn't that simply awesome?

During the entire event, I went crazy clicking pictures and videos, updating my twitter and instagram networks. Impressed with my social networking updates I was instantly rewarded with a beautiful product hamper at the event. While I could easily click pictures and videos while doing my designated team activities I saw my colleagues struggle with their devices. Given the fact that the Venue 7 doesn't weigh more than 300 gms and fits into my palm as easily, gave me the edge over the others.

I know most publishers when going for an important assignment never want to take chances and are always thinking 'what if' my phone battery dies, my laptop doesn't connect, etc etc. But why take those chances when a single convenient option is available. Especially when the product is pocket-friendly, armed with great hardware, functions on the best software, and the most important it has a good running ending battery life. Yes, you do need to charge it and that's a given for any of the products.

With the booming tablet market, the Dell Venue 7 is a great pick with its positive user experience, battery life and as a wonderful medium of social connect. So what are you waiting for? Dump all your multiple gadgets #geekchic and pick the only one you really need.

Until next time,
~ Heena
