Heer was hooked on the Rubik's Cube when my friend Rajiv gave her a 2X2 when she was three years old. She spent most of the day twisting and rearranging the cubelets that day and every day after that. Now she can solve 3X3 and even 4X4 within a few minutes.

Although the Rubik's Cube is now a leisure activity that stimulates the intellect, it was invented in 1974 by Hungarian professor Erno Rubik to help students with their studies. Since then, enthusiasm for the cube has tripled year on year, especially among young children. In recent years, more than 15 million cubes have been sold in India, which is also reflected in the increasing number of cube competitions across the country.

Heer has taken a keen interest in the cube, and I can see how it engages her in a good way. I've noticed that she takes time every day to practise and try to improve her timing. She has over 25 different cubes and is always discovering new brands and variations to keep her interested in the game. She recently acquired the Gan Cube 356 X, a new, improved and reinvented flagship product; a version with a magnetic system that helps the super cubes move the cubelets with precision, especially when the cubelets are spun at high speed in seconds. The Gan Cube 356 X is available in two versions: one without stickers and one with stickers.

As the Gancube.com Spring Festival approaches, Heer is currently obsessed with the Megaminx, a dodecahedron-shaped puzzle with 12 sides and 62 cubelets, 12 in the middle, 20 in the corners and 30 on the edges. As she works her way through the Megaminx tutorials to understand the challenges of solving the cube, she takes notes on the variations and her attempts at solving it. I love that she never loses interest in the cube and tries a new way every day to get as close as possible to the current average of 27.81 seconds.

When I saw how passionate Heer is about such a healthy hobby, I realised that the cube isn't only for children, but also for adults. I became more attentive after attempting to solve the cube and realised that there is no room for stagnation in such an exciting hobby. So if you're a late starter like me, don't fret, check the website, join in and make this superpower puzzle your stress buster too!

Until next time,

The last year has changed our lives in many ways however; the one thing that has tied everything together seamlessly is technology. We’ve seen path-altering platforms emerge and make notable shifts in different spheres of life, education being no exception. Schools took the technological route for learning, making the experience interesting.

While I stood up to the challenge and navigated through e-schooling my daughter, I kept looking for avenues that would help broaden her horizon and give her an edge in a technologically advancing world. And my search leads me to ‘Coding’ a new-age skill that seems to be the need of the hour.

Well, very simply put 'Coding is the backend language of computers that when communicated with helps perform a specific function resulting in what we see at the frontend'. Just like any form of communication, there are numerous ‘coding languages’, which have their own individual set of rules, and are to be written specifically to obtain the outcome.

So before jumping onto the bandwagon I asked myself, ‘Why is it important for my child to know this language?’. As I read up on the benefits of coding, I soon realised that not only is coding a new form of literacy but also a path to holistic development that brings personal and academic benefits such as:

Logical Thinking
Children today are born in the digital world and possess an innate ability to understand coding. A course allows them to use linear thinking and apply logic to break down, set and sequence instructions in a methodical manner to achieve desired results. It inspires them to look at and experiment with different permutations to see how each different set of instructions change the results.

Soft Skills
Children tend to move from one thing to another very quickly, but with coding, they improve on the most crucial skills needed to succeed - Consistency. Coding pushes them to continue to try again differently, especially when faced with a dead end. Consistency also enables them to realise other soft skills like communication, execution, leadership and teamwork.

Creativity
Coding may look like a very technical activity, but it encourages creativity as it requires finding avenues to achieve the desired result. So in all essence coding helps children to think differently, as they set out to turn a vague idea into something effective, something visual and something that works; through trial-and-error, by taking risks, and by applying their learning of the new language in new innovative ways.

So now the next important question is, what course do I enrol my child to? The internet is full of brands, platforms and courses, and so after rounding up a few options and researching about the courses offered on each platform I zeroed in on the Leapwaters Coding Camp.

Leapwaters is a learning platform that offers high quality, affordable, live interactive classes on essential digital skills in multiple Indian languages for children and young adults. The curriculum has been designed by a team of global experts and academicians, in a manner that is easy to absorb and fun to execute. The Leapwaters Coding Camp courses are outlined through new age teaching methodologies that make each of them highly interactive. I choose Leapwaters for:

Age-Appropriateness
The courses offered are for different age groups that have relevant topics that are age-appropriate and which increase from one group to the next. As the child grows older the courses offer continuity, with an appropriate advanced structure that is important for children.

Convenience
The convenience of online classes makes attending the live session easy either from any place with internet access. Also, the Leapwaters Coding Camp courses provide lifetime access to video tutorials in multiple languages, academic articles and notes. The instructor-led, student-centered courses ensure better understanding and involvement.

Curriculum
Even though the duration of each course is one month with a pre-set of topics to be taught, children are also involved in live projects with an amazing opportunity to make six coding projects, four apps, four games and two artificial intelligence and machine learning projects.

Assistance
The courses are easy and stress-free and also offer an option of catching up if a class has been missed. Apart from this it also provides free guidance counseling sessions if required by a student. An added is that every student is entitled to membership to The Leapwaters Entrepreneurs.

Value
The Leapwaters Coding Camp courses are valuable and that goes beyond the price of the course; which is extremely affordable and pocket-friendly, with an additional advantage of 10% discount on enrolling in Leapwaters Coding Camp righaway. The value the courses bring to the child with their quality programs, education experts, and community building initiative; makes it one of a kind.

Don't we all know that knowledge is power, and coding is the futuristic power that children will need to excel in the years to come? Whether they choose to use this power or not is completely upon them, however, we must equip them with this power today.
So don't think twice, enrol your child today to the Leapwaters Coding Camp, and if you can do gift a course to a child who may not have access to it.

Until next time,
~ Heena

Productivity is the hallmark of a life well-lived, no matter at any age. Of course, it matters that your kids learn the value of productivity or staying productivity from a very young age. There are several tips and tricks that you can absorb from the experts in this regard. You can always encourage kids activities at home and other hobby classes for helping children stay more productive in the course of each day.

Yellow Class will help you out with tons of kids activities online and innovative classes/sessions. As a parent you will have the power towards encouraging your children to get involved, brush up their skills, stay engaged and most importantly, stay productive! Success is actually not about results or final outcomes; it is about learning how to remain productive. Those who are successful are hugely productive, continually expanding their areas of interest and scope of operation while also learning continuously, each day at a time. They have friends, multiple hobbies and ample time for their families while being able to travel and enjoy numerous experiences in turn.

Successful and productive adults are more likely to have been hugely productive as children as well. Here are some tips from the experts, keeping the current digital age in mind:

Teach relevant technology skills - In today’s world, teaching your children the right technical skills will help them stay more productive. For instance, if your child can take a screenshot of something, then he/she can easily show the same to others instead of spending time on a phone call or message to explain the aspect. This is just an example. Start with simple things for children including taking screenshots and photographs, emailing, editing and so on. Technology will ultimately boost productivity a great deal!

Playing games together - Productivity can be taught to children by playing fantastically engaging games together on smartphones, tablets and other devices. These games will help your children focus on the task at hand and the technique works marvellously indeed. It will teach your children the value of goal-setting as well.

Get learning resources online - You can get learning resources and other skill sessions online like the Yellow Class. These platforms go a long way towards enhancing productivity by teaching your children things like dancing, painting, storytelling, creative writing, DIY crafts and a mélange of other interesting activities that will build their creative and social skills while keeping them productively engaged all throughout.

Teach your children responsible usage of technology and load division - While you’re teaching your children how to use technology to stay productive and encouraging them to browse for added learning resources or inputs, make sure that you teach them responsible usage of technology and also to divide their time amidst multiple activities (both offline and online) that they have on a regular basis. Teach them how to plan out tasks for the day and complete each one with short breaks in between. Encourage them to accomplish milestones and goals which they can write down and tick off alongside.

Memorising things - Teach your children how to memorise things and ideas that come to their mind and write them down or capture them. This will help in staying more productive and acting on ideas.

More than anything else, you need to set an example to your children as well, by staying productive and honing your own interests and skills. Your children will naturally follow suit.

Vaccination, Optional or Necessary? - www.iCynosure.in

The imperative question isn’t what to expect when you are expecting but more so what to expect when the baby arrives. My personal experience has been a roller coaster ride; for with my daughter I had an easy-breezy pregnancy and a very difficult first year; but with my son, the pregnancy was very tough and the first year has been a easygoing. While taking care of myself and getting back to my pre-pregnancy health, my utmost priority then and now has been keeping my babies healthy and safe.

However, I’ve noticed that a new parent often keeps a close eye on the development milestones of the baby but put 'Vaccines' on the back burner, not realising that it is one of the most effective and simple ways to help a newborn’s immune system recognise and fight pathogens, keep safe and prevent diseases they cause; to grow and develop well.

Even the World Health Organisation has been pushing vaccination programs since the early ’70s and finally, in 2019 it estimated that around 116 million infants worldwide received vaccines against more than 25 debilitating, life-threatening diseases; such as measles, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, meningitis, influenza, tetanus and typhoid. However, even today nearly 20 million infants worldwide miss out on vaccinations putting them and others at risk of serious diseases, death, disability and ill-health.

The numbers sure are staggering, but honestly, at one point in time, I was a parent never on the fence about vaccinations, because I asked far too many questions; all to the relevant people… and it all collectively helped me decide to follow the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) recommended Immunization Schedule for children aged 0 through 18 years and I have been on-point with my paediatrician’s recommendations.

However, I am sure there will be many who are in a similar catch-22 situation and hence I’m sharing a few crucial and important points that stirred me in the right direction.

Protection
Infant immunization is one of the most crucial steps to protect and safeguard a baby’s health as vaccines offer protection from infection that lowers the risk of disease as the immune system is already acclimatised against the pathogens, protection to community as immunizing your child not only protects her but also prevents widespread outbreaks and protection for future as vaccines help eradicate the infection.

Safety
Vaccines go through vigorous research and trial periods before being locally available.Pharmaceutical companies invest time and effort in the process, and various industry bodies approve these vaccinations only after thorough due diligence, as the safety of a child is paramount. However, to be assured lookout for the WHO pre-qualification of the vaccine, as the world body approves immunization vaccines after they are proven on efficacy, potency and thermo-stability.

Effect
It is indeed incorrect to assume that vaccines shots are painless, but the pain is only momentary. However, the aftereffect of vaccines such as fever, soreness, etc can be quite taxing especially for an infant. But advanced technology has made it possible for vaccines to be pain-less which contain fewer antigens and thus very few painful after-effects. That means these injections are not pain-free, but the pain & discomfort are much lower.

Multi-Vaccine
The list of recommended vaccines in the first 12 months of a baby’s life is long and thus doctors and paediatricians opt for combination or multi-vaccines. Studies show that vaccines when given together offer the same protection with lesser pricks and lower hospital visits. The most commonly used multi-vaccine globally is the DTP that protects against 6 major childhood diseases such as Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Haemophilus Influenza B, and Hepatitis B.

For both my children I wasn’t shy of asking questions about the brand, the product, the pros and cons and more. But I learnt that the enormous protection vaccines provide certainly outweigh the minor side-effects. Be an informed parent, up #YourCareQuotient for your baby’s long-lasting good health.

Until next time,

As a mother, my most natural instinct is to nurture and protect my little Rajveer against anything and everything. But sometimes to protect him I have to endure some pain, the pain of seeing him being vaccinated. At each of his vaccination appointments for the last eight months, my heart has been torn apart at his little cries, but I’m strong enough to endure it for his healthy growth and development.

Rajveer is due for his next vaccination; the MMR vaccine in two weeks, as per the immunisation schedule set by Government of India. The MMR vaccine is a crucial vaccine in the immunisation calendar, which protects children against three diseases namely measles, mumps, and rubella. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) recommends the MMR vaccine in two doses, starting with the first dose at 9 months of age, and the second dose at 4 years of age. As I booked the next appointment for Rajveer, his paediatrician recommended the Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine, the first vaccine approved for primary and booster vaccination for meningococcal or bacterial meningitis.

As I wasn’t aware of meningitis, I asked quite a few questions about the condition and the vaccination. The first thing that shocked me about meningitis is that it is a rare but potentially life-threatening bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and the spinal cord.

The conversation left me wondering, and so I spoke to a few healthcare professionals and decided to share some relevant information, and arm parents to make informed decisions about the vaccination.

About the Disease
Meningitis is either a bacterial or viral infection, which may seem pretty straightforward, however, in spite of significant medical advancement, the infection is difficult to detect. Though viral meningitis is usually mild and often clears by itself without the need for medical intervention, it is bacterial meningitis which is riskier and worsens within hours causing long term disabilities and sometimes death.

Risk Profile
The condition does not affect any particular person, it can affect anyone of any age, at any time and at any place. However, children below the age of 2 years are most at risk.

Visible Symptoms
The symptoms are similar to that of flu; like high temperature, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. But, if these symptoms are accompanied by severe headaches, discomfort in bright lights, joint pain, and a stiff neck; a diagnosis is imperative.

Scientific Diagnosis
The condition is most commonly diagnosed by a blood test, an X-ray or a CT scan to gauge the severity, however, in some cases, a spinal tap or lumbar puncture is done to check the cerebrospinal fluid for the Neisseria bacteria.

Treatment Path
If detected, the condition is treated immediately with multiple intravenous antibiotics and sometimes corticosteroids to help reduce the risk of complications, like brain swelling and seizures until the exact cause of meningitis is diagnosed. Once the cause is determined, a pre-set line of treatment is followed.

Preventive Measures
Since the root cause of meningitis is a viral or bacterial infection, practising good hygiene and care is the first step to prevention. Another crucial step is immunisation, which ensures inoculation against various types of acute bacterial meningitis. In India, the meningococcal conjugate vaccine ‘Menactra by Sanofi Pasteur’ is advised to be administered first at 9 months and next at 2 years. Menactra protects against three types of acute bacterial meningitis, ensuring protection and prevention at the same time.

Most parents may say, oh, it's just another vaccine, but here are some fast facts about Meningitis that will help make your decision:

⟡ Children and adults are both likely to develop bacterial meningitis
⟡ 1 in 5 cases of bacterial meningitis end with serious complications
⟡ Bacterial meningitis causes around 170,000 deaths globally every year
⟡ In spite of prompt diagnosis and treatment, 10% of patients die within 24-48 hours
⟡ Even after treatment, survivors live with permanent damage and need ongoing treatment
⟡ Most people have no knowledge about the condition, the causes, the symptoms, and the prevention

Knowing about meningitis helped me be a proactive parent who won’t take the tiniest risk.  You too can be that parent, the one who makes an informed choice between life, death and life-long disability.

Stay Healthy, Stay Happy,

Heer has a love-hate relationship with her school. She loves going to school and wouldn’t want to miss it even for a day but hates waking up at dawn to be in school by 7:30 am. We love her summer holidays; however, over the years I have experienced that summers lower Heer’s immunity and she suffers from health issues like dehydration and diarrhoea. Though most of the conditions are easy to manage at home, managing and treating diarrhoea is challenging. I've noticed that during diarrhoea as her little body defends to flush out the bacteria, it loses body fluid, electrolytes, and nutrients, making her vulnerable and weak.

Now Battling Diarrhoea Is Easy With Enterogermina - 1

I've recently read that every year there are over 1.7 billion cases of diarrhoea globally, of which 1.3 billion people succumb to the disease. The statistic is scary, and it can be changed with a little bit of information about the condition. That’s the thought team Enterogermina had when they planned the #HappyTummiesMeet in Mumbai with parenting bloggers.

Now Battling Diarrhoea Is Easy With Enterogermina - 2

The focus of the Enterogermina meet was to help mothers understand how to manage diarrhoea and put the word out to educate other parents about the causes, treatment and prevention. As the event progressed, I learnt numerous little details about diarrhoea from Dr. Zinal Unadkat, a leading paediatrician from Mumbai and I’m sharing them with you.

Now Battling Diarrhoea Is Easy With Enterogermina - 3

What is diarrhoea?
The child's digestive system is sensitive to dietary changes and when unfamiliar substances enter the body, digestive problems occur, the most common of which is diarrhoea, which is an infection in the intestinal tract. It results in loose or watery stools that occur frequently and are accompanied by stomach ache, fever, headache, nausea and loss of appetite.

What are the common forms of diarrhoea?
Diarrhoea can either be viral or bacterial. Viral diarrhoea or stomach flu is very common and runs itself out in a couple of days. However, bacterial diarrhoea is caused by consumption of food or water that has become contaminated with bacteria or toxins.

How to manage and treat diarrhoea?
Since diarrhoea in a child causes rapid dehydration, it is important to keep her hydrated, by constantly offering plenty of fluids, including water, fresh fruit juices, broths and soups. It is also advisable to give the child a probiotic like Enterogermina to help balance the good and bad bacteria for quick recovery.

When to visit the doctor for diarrhoea?
Most times, diarrhoea in children can be treated with home remedies and Enterogermina, Paediatrician's No.1 choice. However, if the condition lasts for more than two days it is advisable to seek medical attention. Also if the child has severe abdominal pain, a fever of 102°F or higher, rush to the doctor immediately.
Now Battling Diarrhoea Is Easy With Enterogermina - 4

One of the best parts of the meet was the Good Food-Bad Food activity organized for the children, in which they participated with gusto. Heer was the most curious child at the meet, asking many questions and getting her food queries resolved. As we headed home, I knew I had to make Enterogermina a part of my children's daily routine for #HappyTummies. I’m always keen to incorporate new things to keep my children healthy and germ-bacteria free.

All I ever wanted to be was, not just a mother, but to be the best mother. By expecting too much from myself, I was quite overwhelmed at the time when I was pregnant with my first child. I couldn’t wait to begin my motherhood journey, with poster perfect mom-baby images floating in my head. I waited for the tiny feet to walk into my life, and after hours of anxiety and a sleepless night, my bubble burst when the wait came to an end, with the arrival of my princess. Don’t get me wrong, it is by far the most memorable - most cherished day of my life; but what happened in the following few weeks, was something I wasn't prepared for.

Princess Heer would cry for long spells and no matter what I did or didn't do, the crying wouldn't cease. I tried breastfeeding, rocking, swaddling, and literally everything anyone would suggest without much success, I didn’t know what had hit me. I was so ashamed to acknowledge that I didn’t know what I was doing or what I was expected to do nor what I needed to do. The only thought that came to my mind was that I wasn't fit to be a mother as I had no idea how to take care of my own baby. Precious snuggles with my little one kept me going through the tough times, comforting me more than what I was giving her.

Finally, when I couldn't take it anymore, I sought medical help. Princess Heer was at that point diagnosed with a case of baby colic. Colic, I learnt are baffling bouts of crying in otherwise healthy babies, that has no solution and passes in time. This fussy phase goes on for hours at stretch, sometimes late into the night and worst of all are extremely difficult to help calm the baby, which compounds to frustration, worry and exhaustion. Most bouts peak at around 6 weeks and then typically start to taper off by 12 to 15 weeks. By three months most colicky infants seem to be miraculously cured. The colic may stop suddenly or end gradually, with some good and some bad days, until they are all good.

However, that didn't mean anything, as listening to my princess cry was heartbreaking and upsetting to a point that it took a physical and emotional toll on my wellbeing. And at that time, I did what I knew best, joined a moms’ group and spoke about it. I received a lot of encouragement and support from other moms who could relate to the issue and some who had faced similar situations. Some calming remedies that were suggested worked their magic most of the times and I was able to help my little one calm more often as the days went by. It was just the therapy I needed to be a sane mother, especially the second time around.

SC Johnson's All Out releases film #MujheSabNahiPata, an ode to tough moms.

Being part of the moms' group made me realise that there were a lot of moms who had the courage to seek help and be better at motherhood with each passing day. It is the very thought that SC Johnson's All Out® applauds in its latest campaign #MujheSabNahiPata, which celebrates strong mothers who acknowledge that they don't know everything. During the release of the film, a panel discussion was organised between actress Sonali Bendre, renowned Paediatrician Dr. Samir Dalwai and Child Psychologist Dr. Rupal Patel which centred around the societal expectations of a mother in India. The most important aspect as Dr. Dalwai mentioned is not the issue itself but the alertness of a parent to the signs and changes in an infant’s behaviour, which could enable a quick resolution. Instances where a small insect can cause severe damage by spreading dengue can be arrested and fought off with timely intervention by being a vigilant mother and seeking help from experts.

Let us join this movement and like olden times tie a knot at the end of our attire to remind ourselves to share our #MujheSabNahiPata stories which can help other moms be more prepared for their beautiful journey. Looking forward to hearing your #MujheSabNahiPata stories in the comments section below.

When do you think your skin is at its optimum best?

Very surprisingly or not, no one is really sure that the skin is the best at a given day... But I do and no it is not what you think. Research says that skin is at its optimum best during infancy with a pH level of 5.5 which makes it slightly acidic in nature. An ideal pH level is the only reason, a baby’s skin feels the softest, most supple and perfectly nourished and moisturised at touch. However, at this stage, it is also quite tender and sensitive to the new environment it is exposed to and needs extra protection to maintain it.

The most important aspect of skincare apart from cleansing and moisturising is to preserve the natural pH balance as it plays a vital role in protecting the body by neutralising alkaline-based external aggressors and restoring the skin’s natural defences. Balancing the skin's pH level is not as difficult or as complicated as it sounds, in fact, it is relatively simple and easy to achieve. An effortless way is to enhance pH in the body is by using products that are either neutral or slightly acidic in nature. There are numerous  brands that offer pH neutral products and specifically for infants and babies. I use SebaMed Baby, a range of bath, skin and sun care products created specifically with a pH value of 5.5 to make #MyLittleMan Rajveer’s skin more resilient and less sensitive. With the harsh summers around the corner in India, I've planned my skincare regime for him with products suggested by his paediatric dermatologist which include steps to nourish, cleanse, moisturise and protect his skin.

The two step routine begins with a nourishing and cleansing bath for which I'm ditching the bathing soap and opting for SebaMed Baby Extra Soft Wash. The botanical cleanser with a refatting compound containing vernix protects his skin from harmful bacteria and encourages moisture retention thereby minimising the risk of dryness and irritation.

The next step is moisturising with SebaMed Baby Cream to promote skin development and protecting with SebaMed Baby Sun Lotion to prevent dehydration. The rapidly absorbing, non-greasy formula of the cream and lotion helps preserve moisture balance and acts as a natural pH buffer to keep skin healthy and glowing.

A few things that I absolutely love about the Sebamed Baby range of products are:
~ developed and clinically tested by dermatologists
~ recommended by paediatricians as well as dermatologists
~ suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive and young skin
~ suitable from birth right up to adolescence
~ free of harmful ingredients like soap, mineral oil and chemicals
~ has an ideal pH 5.5 content to nourish and protect a baby’s skin

Thankfully, balancing Rajveer's skin's pH levels have never been easier, thanks to Sebamed Baby range of products. As you see sustaining the natural pH quotient of his skin doesn't require an elaborate skin care routine, just remembering what his skin likes and dislikes. Once I understood those little details, I have been able to give him the best thing to wear every day.... a gorgeous healthy skin.

Until next time,
~ Heena

RV came into this world kicking up a storm and I was overwhelmed with emotion and anxiety. My second brush with motherhood was fairly simple as compared to the first time when #PrincessHeer arrived, I knew what to do and what not. I also knew particularly what I needed and what I didn’t. While it’s easy for new parents to figure out what they need for their newborns, it’s pretty tricky for friends and family to know what to gift when visiting the newborn. Sometimes they think they have picked the most ideal gift which actually turns out either to be completely useless or gifted in multiples.

So this time to negate the unnecessary, I created a unique online gift registry that brings together unique baby and kids products from over 35 brands under one roof. These products are perfect gifts for every occasion including birthdays, baby showers, and more. As I created a registry for RV, I browsed through different websites, selected products and added them to my wishlist; which then I shared with my friends and family in just a single click. And voila, I received the most appropriate and useful things that would ease my motherhood journey.

Do you want to know what products I picked for my little man?

Diapers
Diapers are the most obvious gift for a newborn, however, only a few people I know think of diapers as an appropriate baby gift. Maybe the rationale behind it is that diapers don’t last, and one wants to gift something that stays forever. This issue is now resolved with eco-friendly, reusable cloth diapers that not only keep the baby happy and healthy but also keep the environment safe. Reusable cloth diapers from brands like SuperButtoms have now become the most appreciated and useful gift for new parents. I received a dual pack of Superbottoms Plus Uno that are perfect to start diapering, as they are a sustainable, rash-free option for babies up to 3 years of age. The diapers are the slimmest cloth diapers available in cutest prints, that work as a 3-in-1 product; re a diaper, a pocket diaper and a swim diaper.

Carrier
The one thing that I learnt with #PrincessHeer was that no matter how cosy a swing or bouncy seat is, she always wanted to be cuddled in my arms. And no matter how much I loved doing it, it became impossible for me to go about my daily routine while carrying her. So I particularly wanted a fuss-free, hands-free baby carrier that ensured maximum comfort and luxury for RV. Of the many national and international brands available I picked the Yoga Carrier from Cookiie Pie Co. for its silhouette which helps a baby nest against your body in the most natural way. The Yoga Carrier is the easiest way to soothe a baby during sleepless nights and tiring days, with its supportive waist belt and cushioned under thigh guard. The Yoga Carrier is a practical gift for new parents that can be used until the baby weighs 20 kgs.

Blanket
I was surprised with just how many types of baby blankets are available in the market today, making it extremely difficult for new parents to figure out what exactly would be appropriate for an infant. The main job of a good baby blanket is to provide the newborn with positive sleep associations helping him to fall asleep without too much fuss, and keep him calm and reassured. The Dro Sto blanket that I received, is a gorgeous piece in a lightweight and breathable fabric perfect for swaddling, tummy time and everything in between. The blanket allows RV to sleep easily and peacefully, without heating the body even in a warm climate. The blanket is available in lots of fun colours and exciting characters, and be rest assured that there is a Dro Sto blanket that can match any nursery. The Dro Sto blanket is so snuggly, soft and cushiony, that I wish they made it in full sizes for adult-kids like myself to feel amazing.

Footwear
New parents receive numerous clothing items as gifts, but not once have I heard or seen baby footwear given as gifts. Believe it or not baby socks, booties and shoes are essential for every newborn as they help regulate a baby’s temperature. In fact, I’ve personally experienced that fussiness decreases as soon as RV’s little feet are covered and warm. Since I didn't want to leave it to chance I added a few products from Aviv a brand that specialises in custom-made handcrafted baby footwear on my must-have list of baby products. The brand Aviv works with local artisans supporting cottage industries to offer luxuriously soft, super flexible, thin-soled baby footwear made with carefully chosen materials to keep your little one's feet protected. The brand offers a ton of colours and patterns for both little girls and boys that will help your little one stand out in a crowd. Not only are the shoes a perfect keepsake, but the brand also offers bags for toddlers and tooth pouches for kids as well, all perfect to create lasting memories.

Rocker
A rocker or a bouncing chair is an absolute lifesaver for a new parent, and I know this as #PrincessHeer had colic and it was the most perfect way to help her lay in a reclined position to help reduce reflux and also allow for a soothing rocking motion. After intense scrutiny, I picked a good quality rocker from Little Olive rocker for its ergonomic design and premium quality material that is suitable for a newborn. The rocker not only keeps the baby engaged during playtimes, but it also offers a great position in the initial days of feeding and also serves as a great option for a baby to sleep in. The Little Olive rocker not only cradles little RV in comfort and provides optimal support for his back but also soothing massage-like feel with the vibrate function to keep him safe and engaged.

What do you think? Are these products perfect gifts for a newborn or do you think there are other products that would make ideal gifts? Leave me your suggestions in the comments below about what would make ideal gifts for a newborn; or some interesting episode when you received gifts for your little ones.

Until next time,

Motherhood is overwhelming and can leave you at a loss of what to do next. Bringing home a tiny person, who you are completely responsible for can be extremely intimidating. But do not worry, motherhood is a learning process and your child will be your greatest teacher. Seven years ago when I was expecting Heer, I was so carried away with the entire pregnancy and motherhood experience that I missed out on taking a few moments to sit back relax and make some of those moments into precious, everlasting memories. However the second time around as soon as I got to know I was expecting, I made a list of things I wanted to do as soon as the baby arrived. Here are three things that I'm doing to remind me of RV's early days.

Hand-Painted Portraits
I love taking pictures of my babies but under the ton of digital images, it is going to be impossible to pick one and gaze at it adoringly. So instead of just letting it slide, I picked a gorgeous, even though imperfect picture of RV and Heer sharing a precious moment and sent it to PortraitFlip to be converted into an original hand-painted portrait. PortraitFlip is an online portal that converts photos into paintings with a range of custom finishes in oil, pencil or charcoal, acrylic and watercolours. I choose to get my precious cherubs painted in watercolours for a baby portrait that will adorn the walls of my home, showing raw emotions between the siblings that I can always hold close to my heart.

3D Casting
Every time I touch RV's tiny hands and feet, it fills my heart with love and care. I have a surge of emotions running through me, a feeling that compares with absolutely nothing else and I wish time stood still so I could live this forever. But that's not going to happen and in a few years, I won't even remember how tiny he once was. The chubby hands and feet that I so loving hold and caress will outgrow my arms and will be lost in the mundane of life. So to preserve this preciousness forever I've contacted a 3D casting artist to create a replica that will capture every single little detail of the hands of both my offsprings and give me something to cherish forever.

Breastmilk Jewellery
I absolutely love my jewellery and if I could make it exceptionally special with something as precious and personal as breastmilk, I would absolutely go for it. After some research I came across the brand that specialises in Breast Milk Jewellery and browsed through the product options and finishes available, zeroing in on a gorgeous yet simple ring. Once I finalise the design with the vendor, I will send in the required quantity of pumped breastmilk to have a keepsake, of the personal moments I shared with RV.

These little things will be a perfect reminder of how ‘Miracles Happen’, and an acknowledgement of how I overcame my fears and struggles with determination to have a family of my dreams.

Have you preserved the memories your children’s birth in any way? If so please share with me in the comments below and I’d love to explore them.

Until next time,

A Mother’s Guide To A Soy Protein Enriched Diet

Children today are living in a very different world compared to what we grew up in. The changes in the family, community and personal dynamics have taken a toll on their physical health, mental stability, spiritual conscious, intellectual strength and social compatibility. Children around you no longer face just the evil of nutritional deficiency but also suffer from the problem of excess, especially where food is concerned with larger intake portions and lower activity patterns. The solution to this problem is pretty simple, yet difficult to implement as people are unaware of how to make healthy food choices, control portion size and indulge in mental and physical activities.

In a recent workshop organised by DuPont Nutrition & Health, I was brought abreast with the benefits of soy and how it is an effective dietary protein that can easily be incorporated into children's diets. The Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) that ranks protein on the basis of essential amino acid profile and digestibility; ranks soy Protein as 1.0 which is the highest score attainable similar to that of dairy and meat. According to a study conducted by the Soy Foods Association of North America, apart from being a tasty alternative in children’s meals, soy provides essential nutrients like calcium, zinc, iron and folate for growth and development, fibre which boosts absorption and digestion and enables a higher protein intake with decreased saturated fats for overall wellbeing.

Since soy is an exceptional 'complete protein' which is extremely good for growing children, the next imperative question to all mothers is 'Are you incorporating soy in your children’s diets?', If not, here are a few simple ways of consuming soy, whether supplement for a child or an adult.

Soymilk
The simplest form to introduce soy protein in a diet is through soymilk, the best alternative to dairy milk. A cup of soymilk contains about 100 calories and 300 milligrams of calcium. Soymilk can not only be consumes as is but also can be added to milkshakes and coffee, or set as curd.

Tofu
Soybean curd or more popularly known as tofu, is similar to cheese in texture and paneer in taste.Yet another excellent source of protein and calcium, tofu can be stir-fried, baked, grilled and used as an ingredient in numerous recipes, both in an appetiser or main meal.

Edamame
Unmatured green pods of soybean can be boiled in salt water to make Edamame. The pods can be then garnished with flavours and served as an appetiser. The beans can also be removed from pods to be added to salads and other food dishes. Matured soybeans can also be roasted and served as a snack.

Tempeh
Soy can be cooked, slightly fermented and made into Tempeh that can be added to grains and legumes to be baked into cakes or set as energy bars. Tempeh has a firm texture and an earthy flavour, which becomes more pronounced as it ages. It also has a higher content of protein, iron, dietary fiber and vitamins.

Isolate
Isolate is dry soybean powder that is separated from the other components of soybean, making it rich in protein, carbohydrate and fat-free. Isolate can be found in many ready-to-eat food items such as protein powders, bottled fruit drinks, energy bars, breakfast cereals and more.

#ProteinHealth #SoyIsGood #SoyBetterForYou

There are numerous products with isolate brands available in the market, however, DuPont Nutrition & Health is a world leader in developing innovative soy-based ingredients that enable nutritious and great-tasting food and beverage products. The rigorous quality standards for raw materials, advanced technologies, manufacturing and inventory control ensure that the soy protein products deliver the highest levels of quality, safety and consistency. So when you pick products especially for soy protein, look at the label for the DuPont edge.

So will you take the leap and introduce soy food and soy protein in your children’s diets? If so how, let me know in the comments below.

Until next time,
