Everyone lives in two worlds.... outside the door and inside the door.

Beautify Your Home With The Magic Of Asian Paints

Having lived in a rented apartment for the last 6 years post our wedding and touring the world for work assignments we finally decided to move back home - Bombay. The settling down phase to owning our very first home has been an incredible journey, one that we shall cherish for a lifetime. Acquiring a home has been the easy part of decorating it has been a bit difficult. With our individualistic ideas, our preferred specifics and above all a little princess to consider we had to ensure to inculcate all of these elements into the designing our home.

Working tirelessly with an architect we set out to remodel our home to give us all that we wished for.. a reflection of ourselves....cosy couple's corner, a booklover's paradise, a children's room, a puja place and a great area to entertain. Though extremely vocal in our different choices we were able to bring in consensus on many tiny things after loads of discussions. All this to make our home more comfortable, convenient yet maintain a classy and stylish look which felt like 'u's and not some printed brochure.

As we worked with the architect, we invited the Asian Paints Home Solutions team BEYOND THE DOOR to bring in their expertise to give us a sneak peak of our dream home in colour. With practically no to little knowledge of what to expect when we called them we were pleasantly surprised to receive a multi-faceted colour approach. A quick chat revolved around our likes and dislikes about colour schemes, clearing our doubts about combinations and expert advice on painting techniques and services offered. And then armed with shortlisted colours we were taken through our sampler set with a simple foresight and consultancy services.

So realistically our checklist is achieving small wonders to create a beautiful home. The litmus test has been to find an option that reflects both of us, without clashing the individualities. Whether highlighting a piece of furniture or adding a burst of colour or a collage of wonderful gorgeous memories we were assisted in how to adorn the walls around it.

We have opted for Neutral Elements, ditching the extremes thereby striking a balance between masculine and feminine elements. We've kept the leather accessories and sports memorabilia out as well as the pinks and soft toys, except for princess's room. However, we have given each other that one item to include it in a way that it doesn't define the room. So in comes his cricket club trophy near the study table and my beloved baby teddy on my side of the bed.

I love light Sleek Furniture as opposed to heavy-duty huge and to a certain extent antique furniture. We are to furnish with light coloured furniture in darker rooms and vice versa to keep the room airy and spacious. A standout piece in each room will not only add great visual appeal but also great utility. A lounger in the guest bedroom, a contemporary dressing table in our bedroom, a Mickey Mouse cabinet in Princess's room and a beautiful circular floral designed bookcase in the living room highlights each of the rooms.

Lights define both the ambience and the mood. We've included multiple options to create Mood Lighting including soft string lights for a calm and serene atmosphere, artistic lamps and nightstands for mystic and candles for a soothing romantic aura. Footlights with sensors are used throughout the house for convenience. A rectangle chandelier will sit pretty over the dining table in the kitchen and a ceiling drop light in the corner of the living room are some of the lights we want to bring in.

We have commissioned an artist to create a 3D Wall Sculpture. Adding a Breathtaking Artwork piece that both of us love and holds a special place in our heart as a beautiful memory has been a huge decision. The cost is exorbitant but worth every penny as we are sure it will simply take our breath away. We are so looking forward to this.

Since we are playing with three major shades in our home (namely ivory brown and black) the burst of colours shall come from all the Furnishings and Accessories. Starting with the curtains, bed linen, wall accessories, wall clocks, throw pillows, etc we plan to add loads of colours and shapes to brighten the rooms.

And finally Wall Paint and Wallpaper to accentuate the look. We have planned to use basic colours to make the space brighter and larger. Going with colours of the same family in varied tones we are letting the colours speak for themselves. A mix of interior paints, metal finishes and wood finishes is what will stand out in our home.

C's rule the Indian household. ... be it Cricket, Cinema or Chocolate and not necessarily in that order. I'm guilty of these indulgences as well from time to time.

Born to parents of one who is a teacher we were never exposed to mainstream masala films with typical naach-gaana and over the top pretend dramas. Right since a very young age I was always 'allowed to watch a film' on certain terms and conditions, mainly one that does have some kind of learning at the end. That really spelt very few movies to watch, however, that never restricted from exploring.

My parents are the seed to the growth of my love for the cinema which primarily has a different approach to storytelling, bound by a simple yet tight script and backed by great performances. I vividly remember watching Haathi Mere Saathi, Chhota Chetan and the likes numerous times with samosas and a bottle of gold spot. The first mainstream movie that I watched was Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in 1994 on August 20th, my birthday.

Since then my love for cinema has swung between the movies and theatre for want of performance oriented, unique scripts. Since the last decade or so the gap between mainstream and offbeat cinema has been bridged with experimental storytelling. For me, a movie that takes me into a different world and makes me feel for the characters is my type of movie. Now, that's a beauty I'd say. Keeping that thought in mind here are the few movies that left me wanting for more:

5 Must Watch Offbeat Hindi Movies
IQBAL

A movie that inspires through the story of a cricket-obsessed boy as he overcomes his limitation to become a cricketer and fulfil his dream of playing for the Indian National Cricket team. The simple story pulls in audiences through the outstanding performances by both Shreyas Talpade who plays the deaf and mute Iqbal and Naseeruddin Shah who plays the coach. I love the way young Shreyas hold the audience's attention in the same frame as the stalwart Naseeruddin. What draws me to the movie apart from cricket is the honest and sincere portrayal of the politics of the cricket system. It is a simple movie that encourages you to believe that no dream is bigger than the eye that sees it.

5 Must Watch Offbeat Hindi Movies
THE BLUE UMBRELLA

A movie based on a book by one of my favourite writers Ruskin Bond about a little girl who acquires a beautiful Blue umbrella and then becomes the envy of a wealthy shopkeeper who wants to steal it is my all time favourite movie. Simple, unassuming yet a heartwarming story that takes me back to my childhood reminding about that one possession I would do anything for while keeping me in adulthood mirroring what wanting something can make me into. The little girl played by Shriya Saran is convincing however, it is an out and out Pankaj Kapoor movie. Oh, the man brings out the emotions in the audience ...pity, hatred, anger and outrage - just goes to show his craftsmanship. A Must Watch for Everyone.

5 Must Watch Offbeat Hindi Movies
DO DOONI CHAAR

A movie based on the trials of the Indian middle class trying their best to make ends meet. The dreams of the family to buy a car and the tough situations they face on a day to day basis makes this film a really fun flick. Crazy, funny yet with loads of teachings the movie is a splendid display of art by all the characters. The bringing together of the power couple Rishi and Neetu Kapoor makes this film more realistic. I love the way Neetu Kapoor essayed the role of a retired librarian cum housewife struggling to keep all the members of the family bound together. The best sequence in the film is the family looking for gift coupons in the washing powder packets.

5 Must Watch Offbeat Hindi Movies
GULAAL

A film based on a series of unruly events in the college life of a law student from ragging to politics, deception, crime and homicide. The film speaks volumes about a brutal political scenario and cannot be expressed in words but can only be experienced. The only drawback of the film is the portrayal of the ladies whose characters are shaped enough and have very little to do. After watching the movie I fell in love with Abhimanyu Singh's roguish intensity and Mahi Gill's beauty. The screenplay, the dialogues and the lyrics demand that the movie be watched.

5 Must Watch Offbeat Hindi Movies
TAARE ZAMEEN PAR

A Movie that portrays the race that parents push their children into to get the highest marks, be the best in every sense.  The movie is all about Ishaan Awasti played by Darsheel Safary a happy-go-lucky boy who is a misfit and does badly in school. When nothing seems to be working for the father pack Ishaan to a boarding school where his teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh build a rapport with him. The way the boy flourish under the teacher's wing is shot beautifully over the second half of the movie. The movie is beautifully woven to appeal to practically everybody tugging at the heartstrings. The beauty lies in a delicate subject handled with great simplicity and sensitivity, that whoever you are it leaves you amazed with its impact. The highlight of the movie is the song 'Maa', brings me to tears whenever I hear it.

Movies that didn't make the list but are the ones I really enjoy watching from time-to-time are:
Arth - A Wednesday - My Brother Nikhil - Stanley Ka Dabba - The Lunchbox - Udaan

Hair Tales, A Poem About My Hair

There was a little girl in tinsel town,
Who was looked down upon with a frown.
She was smart, cute and so very witty,
But shooed away as if she wasn't pretty.

She cried and cried a lot in vain,
trying to tame her unruly long mane.
She tried using products this and that,
but her hair always lay lifeless and flat.

That day she saw the handsome Prince,
closing her eyes she vowed to be truly his.
Gathering courage she went to the wicked witch,
who promised her a magical beautiful switch.

Oh, how the witch turned out to be such a bitch,
she cursed and pushed the girl into the ditch.
Unconscious and motionless in the hole she lay,
praying she didn't foolishly have to dearly pay.

Hurt and scared she sat in the darkness,
as she waited patiently for the brightness.
She thought and laughed at the witch's bilk,
as her hand moved and touched a bottle of silk.

As the day dawned and the skies grew lighter,
she started her steady climb up, yes the little fighter.
Then just as suddenly it started to thunder and rain,
and from her hand slipped the bottle's clutched rein.

The milken lotion fell steadfast on her head,
she tried to rub it off wishing she were dead.
The pouring rainwater added to her misery,
and holding on was becoming a bit fishery.

Finally, out she came and rinsed her hair,
when in front of her she saw a bear.
In all the rain she felt her warm tear,
when the handsome Prince pulled her near.

In his arms, she felt small and waif,
As he whispered that she was safe.
In his eyes, she saw a sparkling shine,
As he whispered 'Oh gorgeous, you're mine'.

Shyly she clasped on to his hand,
Walking across a dangerous forest bend.
Reaching the magnificent palace gates she saw,
Her beautiful gorgeous hair, oh she was in awe.

She was excited as she remembered something,
and ran, leaving her Prince with a ring.
At the ditch, she bent to pick with caution,
the little bottle with the magic potion.

She sat in the decorated palace room,
waiting patiently for her beloved groom.
She smiled and hugged the silken little bottle,
That helped her win the most important battle.

As the Prince came slowly into the room,
she felt all the flowers in the world bloom.
He touched her golden strands with his fingers,
and let them for a while stay there and linger.

'How, my dear you manage to maintain your tresses?,
so golden, so gorgeous well kept that never messes.
She smiled pointing to where the bottle stood,
the sun combined with silk makes it so good.

She quickly summoned the palace minister,
asked them to make many portions to administer.
She wanted the portions to be distributed at large,
so that every girl conquers the world after a recharge.

She thought, "After a recharge, I've become a wife,
each and every girl should have that chance in life."
She held the bottle as she sang Sun plus Silk, Sun plus Silk,
nothing else but let's just call this magic portion SUNSILK.

The last week of 2013 was fun, exciting and there seemed to be so little time for everything. One of the fun things was the interactive Blogger meet organised by L'Oréal Paris India. Guilty of being extremely late for the event, whatever time I had was well spent with Make-Up and hair Expert Namrata Soni, fellow bloggers and the newly launched Kajal Magique.

L'Oreal Parsi Kajal Magique Review

Just a day earlier I witnessed the launch of the first of its kind product in the range from L'Oréal Paris by none other than the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The moment it was announced I wanted to get my hands on it. So I was delighted to head home with it after the meet I couldn't wait to try it.

Whats L'Oréal Paris Kajal Magique all about?

The first of its kind from the house of L'Oréal Paris, the Kajal Magique has been received with loads of expectations and enthusiasm. The product claims to be a new generation formula powered with mineral pigments for deep intense colour. It is formulated with care ingredients to give a soothing finish that promises to be smudge-proof and waterproof for up to 12 hours.

What does the ingredient list look like?

Ingredients include care formula of VitaminE, Cocoa Butter, Olive Oil Esters and VitaminC Derivatives.

What shades is the product available in?

The newly launched Kajal Magique is available in Black, Supreme Black.

How is the product packaged and priced?

Packaged as a regular little black pencil with a cap highlighted with a hot pink circular strip. The best part of the product is it's a retractable system that requires no sharpening. Priced at INR 245 for 0.35g, it's life is 30 months from the date of manufacturing.

L'Oreal Parsi Kajal Magique Review

My experience and opinion about L'Oréal Paris Kajal Magique
I usually stay away from a lot of eye make-up as I have extremely sensitive eyes and at times use numbered lenses. Backed by the L'Oréal trust I've used  Kajal Magique almost every day and have had nothing to complain about. I love the creamy texture, the deep black colour and its easy application. It takes a couple of strokes to achieve my desired colour on the eyes, however, it is achieved without any irritation or roughness.

Product Strengths:
§ Product does what it promises - no smudging or running nor any fading
§ Magical result, both kajal and eyeliner in one
§ Retractable, no sharpening needed

Product Weaknesses:

§ Few strokes are needed for the desired results
§ Price point a bit high as compared to the competition

Will I recommend the product to friends/family?                        Sure, Yes!
Will I purchase the product again for personal use?                  Yes Definitely

And to answer the question 'Is the Kajal, Magique?' Shouting out loud, yes it is. Go Grab it!

One of the most interesting projects I've handled over the years has been a concept shoot for UK’s largest Indian restaurant company V8 Gourmet Group.

Concept Shoot With Shilpa Shetty Kundra

With interest in various segments including a Fine Dine Restaurant, a few Casual Dining Units, a Take Away Delivery Arm and an Event Management segment it was a challenge to inculcate numerous elements as outlined by the brand managers and the face of the brand.

After numerous brainstorming sessions conceptualised a a fun concept shoot instead of the regular dining experience promotion. Backed with the authentic inputs of celebrity Chef Andy Varma, the fantastic photographic excellence of Vikram Bawa and the ever so gorgeous Actress Shilpa Shetty, the two day shoot spelled fun, loads of yummy treats and experimenting.
