In the final scene of the fourth season of 'House of Cards', Frank Underwood looks straight into the camera and declares, "We don’t submit to terror. We make the terror". More than the words, the treatment of the scene leaves viewers intrigued as, though Frank does the talking, Claire Underwood's gaze conveys the message of the first couple as a team, a ruthless unit that would stop at nothing for power and position.

Fans have been looking forward to seeing the power couple stand by each other in the new season, but as the trailer for the fifth season was aired, it highlighted a dark reference of the fourth season with featuring an upside-down flag of the United States, fluttering against a bleak, cloudy sky with children reading the Pledge of Allegiance. It did not give away anything except a glimpse into a menacing beginning.

As the new season commences, Frank Underwood is expected to come to India with the television premiere of House Of Cards Season 5 on Saturday, 3rd June, 5 pm onwards, on Zee Café. But I don't have to wait to catch my favourite series as I;'m lucky to get a sneak peek into the first episode by Zee Café. The first episode is all I expected and much more, here are a few scenes that will set the tone for the season. *No real spoilers, but please read at your discretion!*

The opening episode is marked with a cynically scathing speech made by Frank Underwood about the sensibilities of American citizens and given the current political scenario, the speech is so much 'art imitating life' scenario. The president declares war in the congressional session against terrorism, prodding a divided house to come together at the same time taking away the focus from impending investigation against himself. Another scene that will connect with audiences is the funeral, where the family of the victim dishes out against the president for using their situation to forward his political agenda. Though the entire episode is an ode to the Underwood’s thirst for power, the scene that stands out is the quiet peering by the first couple outside the White House. The manner in which the scene is shot gives it a realistic approach by which the outside world is scrutinised in the eyes of the White House while the inhabitants within get away with murder.

Even after the episode ends, the words spoken by Frank Underwood continuously rings in the ears, "The American people don’t know what’s best for them. I do. I know exactly what they need. They’re like little children, Claire. We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell them what to think and how to feel and what to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams and crafting their worst fears".

Sounds so real, isn’t it? Yes, and that's the reason you have 'Nothing to be afraid of' or in reality does it actually mean 'Be Afraid'?

Well, it's for audiences to find out, in this rollercoaster ride of power, revenge, emotions, and more. To understand the human dynamics in the series, first catch up on the previous seasons on Netflix, if you haven’t watched House of Cards season 1 to 4, else sit tight and enjoy the ride.

Until next time,

When she saw the dark clouds of expressions mirrored on my face, she smiled a little, consoling me, "Let the cloudburst, let's dance in the rain together." And that was the beginning for us.

Meeta and I grew up together; as different as chalk and cheese, yet as similar as the beauty of emotion. She was a quiet mouse, I was the wild monkey. Our differences brought a balance to our relationship, at the same time testing our patience being with each other. Like any other friends we too have our share of memorable times with each other that we cherish and remember in small doses until we meet again to create new memories. Living in different cities has not taken a toll on our relationship, it has intact made the 'girls night out' more exciting and fun. Our time together is so precious, it feels like we just pick up from where we left off last time, much to the amazement of our hubbies.

The last time we met was when Meeta was in transit and we caught up in Goa. Reminiscing our times in the land of sun and sand, we drifted into #YaaronKiBaraat trying to actually count the number of times we sneaked away from home to land in Goa. Though we failed to arrive at a number, our memories did bring back a funny episode.

The year we were officially declared teenagers by everyone, we twisted our ways into getting approval for an all girl-trip to Goa. It was beautiful, the beach was fierce, wild and inviting. As we stepped out of the hotel straight into the beach we saw a line of docked Jet Skis. I suggested we go for a spin while Meeta cautioned me against it.

“Since when did you learn to drive a BIKE?” she demanded. I hadn’t, but how different would it be than riding a cycle, I thought?

Confidently I strode ahead and asked about renting the ski for half hour. After a zillion questions, a double deposit and a little verbal training, we started our voyage. Meets looked back and shouted for two life jackets. Already we began to move, I was cautious at first and then we relaxed a bit and we enjoyed our time in the water. As the time to head back neared, I saw the attendant waving at us.

Meeta mentioned how much fun we had while I was trying to remember how to stop the beast. I looked ahead and could literally see the shore approaching faster than what I had anticipated, and I panicked. "How to stop this?" I screamed, and all Meeta could do is look at me in the eye, stare for what seemed an eternity and whisper a prayer. "Switch the damn thing off as soon as we hit the shore" she yelled. As soon as I hit stop I could see explosions in my head, but all that really happened was that the bike nose-dived into the sand and we were flung into the air, to land on the sand.

We hung in there for a while, literally kissed the earth and hugged each other in dramatic theatrical expressions while the poor attendant looked on.

As we recollected our moments together, not only did we Celebrate the Taste of Togetherness From A to Z, Faster than Faster to ensure Ummeed se Saje Zindagi. And that's what Zee TV's new chat show Yaaron Ki Baraat is all about; friendships put to test through a series of fun challenges and tasks.

I'm really excited to watch the series; especially with the line-up of super celebrity friendships and the crazy hosts. History will be created, as the show brings together two living legends of Indian cinema for the very time on a television. Sharing sepia-toned memories and heart-warming anecdotes from a friendship that spans over four decades; that fans haven’t had enough of. Recreating the magic from films like Dostana, Bombay to Goa, Naseeb, Kaala Patthar and Shaan, Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha will spill the beans on their friendship. Tune in to ZEE TV at 8 PM on 8th October to witness the magic.

Until then,

Today was a day when I felt #UmmeedHai as I witnessed the press launch of Like OK’s new series 'Ek Nayi Ummeed - Roshni'. Produced by Pulse Media that specialises in realistic cinema, the series follows the life of Dr Roshni; played by Pooja Gor of 'Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya' fame. The protagonist values life over rules and thus refuses to be bound by protocol to do her best to save lives.

Ek Nayi Ummeed…Roshni Launched On Life OK

As the promos have started to air since the last few days, there are two things that will definitely strike a chord with the viewers. One is the thrilling, realistic and gut-wrenching storyline and the other is the stellar star cast. The series will bring out the human element of the profession with the trials and tribunals that doctors face not only from people but also from within the community.

With such a hard-hitting story-line, the producers did a great job on bringing on board veteran actor Amol Palekar at the helm of things. Just his presence on the show reiterates the fact that the show is no run-of-the-mill farce but a heartfelt story of compassion and humanity that prevails in the healthcare practice.

While interacting with the cast this afternoon, it was evident that each of them felt strongly about the screenplay and were deeply rooted in the character. Each character has been portrayed with numerous layers of personality that bring out many positive sides to the medical field based on morals and hope along with unbiased trust.

Pooja, who has played the lead role of Pratigya in the Star Plus show, essays yet another women-centric character that of Dr. Roshni. Speaking to her it was clear that she felt a strong connection with the character and lived through the emotional and professional dilemmas that a practice demands. Torn between what is morally correct and what is legally correct she chooses the former without fear of the latter. She is definitely the one to look out for, given her spectacular performance in her earlier outings.

The one person I was so keen to meet was Divya Seth Shah. I have been following her work since the Hum Log days and am not afraid to say I was smitten. While discussing her role she expressed so much with her eyes that it was impossible not to feel her infectious excitement. Playing Dr. Roshni’s mother, she will bring about the balance between the moral aspect of the profession and the commercialisation for sustainment. Dishing out real-life experiences in various public service arenas she had us agreeing to the difficulties of the noble professionals including that of teachers, doctors and cops. A bridge between the two generations in the series is how she summed up her character’s journey. With a bank of strong characters over the years, Divya is definitely going to be the show stealer here.

Sharing screen space with them will be Raghuvir Yadav, Rahul Vohra and Sahil Anand. The show will be on air from July 13th, 2015; Monday to Friday at 8.00 pm. Will Ek Nayi Ummeed… Roshni bring a paradigm shift in television content?

Well let’s wait, hope and watch. #UmmeedHai,
