Even before the exams have begun we are finalising where we want to spend our holidays before the results hit us right in-between our eyes, and we get into the professional grind. From kindergarten to university we stuck around each other, so a getaway before we moved on with our lives was a must. Luckily we are going to embark on our most awaited holiday soon ... a road trip to witness the treasures of Europe.

It was a tough task convincing parents of three single young girls women, that they are perfectly capable of taking a road trip abroad without a chaperone. We argued, fought, cried and refused to eat … when finally our parents gave up and said 'YES'.

With tons of DO's and DONT's Sadia, Poonam and I were all set to fly to London to my maternal uncle’s house and start our trip. We promised ourselves just one suitcase, so we would all be back with loads of goodies. My uncle was sport enough to lend us his Aston Martin Virage Volante provided we passed his driving expectations and our international license was in place. And that would indeed be a dream come true!

So here is the drill….

After a few driving trials with uncle, we shall drive to Dover which is about a couple of hours away from London. Though there are numerous ways to cross across to Calais from Dover, we shall take a unique route which luckily will also be the fastest - The Shuttle Train.

Imagining the fantastic experience it will be, all vehicles are to drive on board the train to park within it. Once parked people can move around in the cabins to witness the train zooming through an underwater tunnel.

Clicking pictures against the backdrop of the massive cabin, with glass windows overlooking into cyan waters our trip will indeed start on a high note. And even before we shall be able to savour it all, everyone will be summoned to go back to their vehicles and be ready to disembark. It is Dover to Calais in straight 30 minutes.

Driving through France we will definitely make numerous stops to enjoy the scenic beauty, slowly yet steadily zipping towards Strasbourg. A stopover at a hotel to relish the famous French wines is on our list of things to do, that we shall ensure we enjoy almost immediately with staple local cuisine. It’s our little secret.

After resting, the morning shall invite us into the lush Black Forest region of southern Germany compelling us to forget all about the hectic Mumbai traffic. A pre-booked afternoon slot at the Cuckoo Palace for a demonstration of cuckoo clocks will give us loads of time to move around on wheels to witness the forest path change colours from lush green to dark brown and finally a serene black through the morning. After the demo, while checking the collection we'd be reminded of our early playschools days. Singing the long-forgotten nursery rhyme, “Hickory Dickory Dock, the mouse ran up the clock…” we'd pick up souvenirs to bring back home. I better not forget the ornate cuckoo clock that mom has made me promise to get her.

Since we’d share the driving responsibilities, we‘d be able to pack more things into each day to maximize our crazed adventure. After gorging on the world famous Black Forest Gateaux, we shall cross the border to Switzerland. The Rhine Falls will be as inviting as ever and will lure us into climbing to the Viewing Platforms to get a spectacular view of the water body.

Poonam has vertigo, so we've been insisting that she give it a shot with us, as it's going to be her only opportunity. A pact to hold her hand throughout while gazing at the skies above and water below has already been made.

I am going to conspire to drive from this point to the next – Luzern, to the Lion Monument.

The Lion of Lucerne, as it is known was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen to commemorate the Swiss Guards who were massacred during the French Revolution. Visiting the sculpture of a mortally-wounded lion which is not only the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world but also is the most photographed monument will mark our moment in history.

They say 'When in Rome, do as Romans do' so in Switzerland we plan to spend the night in a log cottage at the base of the humongous mountain ranges; sleep in cosy swiss blanket bags and have goat milk, cheese and loaves for breakfast.

The third day will be dedicated to enjoying the scenic beauty of Switzerland and depending on our mood and if weather permits we'd embark on the Mt.Titlis hike. Else we'd love to enjoy the panoramic view of Bollywood's favourite romantic destination; driving around sipping hot chocolate and shopping. A Swiss knife for my brother, loads of chocolates for everyone back home and a nice watch for myself.

After a chilling and leisurely stay in Switzerland how about being unable to set foot on land? asks Sadia when outlining our plans. Yes, that sure sounds exciting; we shouted in unison! Hence next on the agenda is the city of water, the city of romance - Venice. Famous for its architectural marvels, beautiful and serene waters, entertaining people and romantic gondola rides it will be dreamy to live on a boat, listening to waters caressing and smoothing our souls. No one travelling through Europe would want to miss this city, would you?

How about setting eyes on an absolutely gorgeous man while loitering around St. Mark's Square, since we will be in Venice the city of romance, a little fling would be most appropriate, isn't it? Ah, ha ...dream!

Venice opens many doors for the tourist - one can drive down to Rome or Florence or Geneva or Pisa. It sure is going to be a contest between the Leaning Tower in Pisa and the Jet d’Eau in Geneva. We are divided on the next stop and it will be a spur of the moment decision that day or we'd flip a coin to decide our next stop.

Where ever we go next, our final destination will be the Mecca of Fashion – Paris. It sure will be a longish drive of the tour anywhere between 7 hours from Geneva to 12 hours from Pisa. Phew, that sure will be tiring!

Once in the dream city, the 3 friends are going to enjoy the 3F's of Paris!

Hahaha, not what you're thinking - the 3F's of Paris are – Fashion, Food and Fragrance!

Like most girls, I'd love to meet my Prince Charming in Paris. Setting eyes on each other while walking down the Champs-Élysées to exchanging a few words at the Arc de Triomphe. Wouldn't it be a dream to search for him under the illuminated Eiffel Tower to then finally sail away hand-in-hand over River Seine.

Since Paris is our must-visit, must-enjoy location we've reserved a couple of days to enjoy every aspect of the routine site-seeing recommendations. Apart from those we sure want to spend a night at the Eiffel Tower gazing at this man-made marvel, camping at the base with the besties; cracking jokes, munching on French takeaway dinner, clicking pictures, and dreaming about love.

Paris is not only famous for fashion, food and fragrances but also for its vibrant nightlife. Dancing girls, sequins, feather and cabaret – we have booked our table for Moulin Rouge. Yes, pre-booking works out comparatively inexpensive and you're able to get the best seats in the house, with super views.

Going Café-Pub hopping to enjoy the local cuisine, shopping from brand boutiques and local shops, visiting a perfumery and climbing right to the top of the Eiffel Tower to get a bird’s view of the city, sailing over river Seine are all packed in a day. We are deciding whether to take the hot air balloon ride or not, haven't decided as yet, we'll see.

One day has been reserved for shopping, window or otherwise. Clothes, perfumes, accessories, hats, shoes, you name it and get it. Hope our shopping bags all fit into the booth of the Aston Martin Virage Volante as we shall go crazy shopping in the Marais and the speciality boutiques all over Paris.

And finally, after a fun-filled super-duper girly getaway, we shall head back to London via the same route we arrived, Calais-Dover-London.

Do we need to end the trip? Do we need to come home, back to our jobs? Is there a way we can add an element to our trip?

Every year the streets of West London come alive with the sounds and smells of Europe’s biggest street festival, the Notting Hill Carnival. The August Bank Holiday is an absolute treat to witness with twenty miles of vibrant colorful costumes, food stalls, music - dance, over 40,000 volunteers and over 1 million carnival revellers.

The fest was first held in 1966 as a local festival set up by the West Indian community of the Notting Hill area. Today it has achieved the status of the most exciting annual event as a full-blooded Caribbean carnival, attracting millions of visitors from all over the globe.

The usual event flow is the steel band competition on Saturday followed by children's costume party on Sunday and the parade happens on the Bank Holiday Monday. This year the Carnival Bands took to the roads at about nine in the morning on Sunday 25th August and the parade completed the procession by seven in the evening on Monday 26th August. It followed the regular path beginning on the Great Western Road, through the Chepstow Road, on to Westbourne Grove and then finally Ladbroke Grove.

As the evening drew to  close, people continue partying at the after parties organised by various clubs.

Oriflame Lip Balm Haul and ReviewNew Year is here, and so are the winters.

A season that I love and hate... I love it for it's festive aura and I hate it for the dryness it brings to my skin. My skin especially my lips dry up so much I sometimes worry they may crumble. I have over the years tried numerous brands of lip balms, some good while others not so. This year I received a lovely product from Oriflame and it has surprised me tons. It's the Tender Care Protecting Balm.

What's special about Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm?
The product claims to be a multi-purpose protecting balm, loaded with beeswax to soften skin. It can be used in areas like elbows, heels and knees that can specifically benefit from its protecting feature. It claims to be grease and oil-free.

What does the ingredient list look like?
Ingredients include petrolatum, caprylic tri-glyceride, paraffinum liquidum, cera alba, acetylated lanolin, cetyl alcohol, tocopheryl, acetate and propylparaben.

In what flavors is the balm available?
Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm is available in six exciting flavors including almond, blackcurrant, caramel, cherry, chocolate and coconut.

How is the product packaged and priced?
Packaged in a cute baby peach colored little tub with screw-on cap, that goes into a cuter little card box. The balm is priced at INR 229 for 15ml.

How was my experience and opinion about the product?
The Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm performs the primary function of skin care- softening and healing dry, dull, or rough skin splendidly. I love the consistency of the jelly and the fact that it is light and absorbing. I've now used the balm for over a fortnight and the effect on my skin is delicious, smooth and supple without any oily or greasy residue. It does last longer and keeps the skin hydrated for In terms of lasting power, the Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm keeps the skin area softened and hydrated for a good 4-6 hours.

Product Strengths:
⟡ Compact pack thats easy to use
⟡ Available in great flavours
⟡ Lasts longer and is non-greasy

Product Weaknesses:
⟡ Not available over the counter
⟡ Price point a bit high for some

Will I recommend the product to friends/family?            Sure, Yes!
Will I purchase the product again for personal use?      Definitely.

Letters To My Daughter

I cried wanting to move to the next phase of life,
but every month I was left sulking merely as a wife.
Days became months and they turned into years,
people said nasty stuff, in his arms I hid my tears.

It was almost impossible for my survival,
when finally you announced your arrival.
Every day I waited for news about you,
but I was told you still aren't due.

Juggling duties I dreamt about a miracle,
he laughed at me teasing about a pinnacle.
Time passed quickly in all your stirring,
just as the golden date was nearing.

When daddu held you in his hands,
I only touched your golden hair strands.
Holding you so close to our heart,
we marvelled at God's work of art.

We promised to get you the stars and the moon,
work hard for you, our cherished god sent boon.

Yes, as parents every individual wants the best for their children. Even when asked the cobbler on the street has great aspirations for his child just as any millionaire. That's what parenthood is all about. Giving your child the best, sometimes even beyond your own means. I had read numerous articles but I started to identify and relate to those feelings when I first held my princess in my arms. I promised my princess, things which were beyond the price tag. Things which only parents are capable of giving their child.

Gift of Life
Every child receives this gift from his parents, however, it is the duty of the parents to ensure excellent quality of life they provide to the child. The gift of life is largely affected by it's quality. When we gave princess a gift of life, we made a promise to her not only to maintain the quality but also to protect it against all odds. Apart from providing all pre-requisites that ensure healthy living which includes nutritious food, timely vaccinations, safe environment and sound rest, we strongly recommend an investment in Cord Blood Banking and Dental Stem Cell Banking.

Cord Blood and Dental Stem are rich sources of blood, stem and mesenchymal cells; building blocks of the blood and immune system. These cells have the ability to develop into various cells which can help repair tissues, organs, blood vessels and can be used to treat potentially fatal diseases too. The frozen stem-cell rich cord blood and teeth will weave it's magic to create crucial aspects of the body giving the child a better chance of making a full recovery in case faced with some life-threatening moments. Why discard a magic portion when you have an option to store it?

Gift of Love
It is silly to even question a parent's love for a child. It comes as naturally as breathing, as automatically as blinking and as emotionally as tears. But just loving your child isn't enough. For a child to feel loved, parents have to express their love. How does a little baby know his mother from the rest of the world by mere touch? Because of love. We want to keep that connect with princess much beyond the initial years.

Today, everything else is less important than princess, so the job's taken a backseat and so has the business. Every moment princess needs us, we'd be by her side. We have a lot of help around the house, but we committed ourselves to look after princess without the help of a nanny. We want to do silly things with her, be children and grow with her - strengthening our bond and giving her the assurance that we are there for her whenever she needs us. Love is felt when we run around the trees, build sand castles and even when we watch her favourite cartoon together. Sharing cuddles, bringing smiles, exchanging kisses have formed a regular part of our daily lives. Remember distance doesn't make the heart fonder, it makes it lonely; so be there to show your love.

Gift of Values
Every parent wants a child who has high values in life. But how does one instil these simple yet important values? I've witnessed parents talk to children about how they need to behave with others, how not to hit out or scream, pray, etc. With princess we don't teach her how to do things.... we show her how to do it.

We pray every morning and involve her, we visit our place of worship and perform puja together building her belief in the greater power. During tough situations, we speak to her calmly and patiently never raising our voices or raising our hands to inculcate that into her. We treat our house help, neighbours and everyone we come across fairly setting an example for her. And above all we treat our elders with utmost respect and love, thus receiving the same from her.

Gift of Education
The stepping stone to face the big world out there is education. Every parent has great aspirations for their children, dreaming about them as doctors, engineers, businessmen, etc. Many fail to understand that education is not only about the degrees. It is also about what a child learns. The promise that we've made to our princess is about holistic education.

When an educational degree is backed by values, understanding and learnings then our princess will be a truly educated person. As parents we will always be there to show her the right path, however, we wish to build such an environment around her that she realises when she is mistaken and rectifies herself without having to be corrected. That in our view is Education. As princess grows, one thing we wish for her to take from us as parents is our love for reading. Books are those silent educators that teach us a lot without examinations and the results are the ones that are seen for life.

Gift of Security
Building a secure environment for a child to flourish and grow without having to worry about the future is the biggest challenge parents face. Security is multi-dimensional with financial, emotional and physical aspects. To ensure a healthy and secure future for their child parents must keep all these aspects in mind and make appropriate investments. For us, the security commitment we make towards our princess will be multi-faceted.

The emotional security has been guarded with a fortress-like support system of family and friends who will help her sail through the rough weathers when she encounters them. Her physical well-being has been insured with Cord Blood and Teeth Stem Cell banking and a great child mediclaim policy.

To ensure her financial security we have not only invested in a great Child Plan from a leading financial institution but also secured her future with life policies for both of us. In case of an unfavourable event in our life, her life should not be turned upside down due to financial constraints. We are planning on getting her a YoungStar Children’s Plans, a plan that builds a savings fund designed to accumulate wealth for her future. The plan will ensure great payouts during crucial years that will give her the wings to fly to her dreams.

These are some of the essentials that we've chalked out to secure the future of our princess. What are the steps you've taken to do so for your child?
