With the first showers hitting my beloved city Mumbai yesterday, I relived my college days having just moved back from London recently.

Monsoon Style Tips To Look And Feel The Perfect You

Remembering how afraid I was every monsoon while stepping out of home not only for the fear of my stuff getting spoiled but also of the puddles everywhere that I would have had to save myself from. I cautiously refrained from picking up my favourite clothes and accessories for a day at work or an outing with friends or even a date with someone super gorgeous.

But this year, I am going to give caution to the wind (read: rain) and dress my best making the gloomy atmosphere a colourful and bright delight. I’ve noticed over the years, monsoons bring out the blacks and greys in full force… from everything footwear to raincoats and umbrellas and even clothing. So lets out the dull and flaunt the bright, make a head start to prepare for the most romantic season of the year...

MakeUp and Hairstyle
A simple rule for makeup is to keep it light and water-proof and use pastels and aqua colours. A thumb rule for hairstyles would be wearing your hair high on your head, as a ponytail or a soft bun.

Handbags
Flaunt the new craze that’s taken over the handbags. Transparent waterproof bags with yet another little handbag inside. Polyurethane and PU coated bags are also good to go during the rains in various sizes and shapes and colours.

Footwear
Don’t slip into a worn out or an old-fashioned pair of shoes to save your lovelies from getting spoiled when you step out in the rain. Shops are overflowing with beautiful trendy colourful yet inexpensive footwear which is not only stylish but also most appropriate for the season. Not only are they a great protection against the rains but also in vogue. Do not be any means use leather or suede footwear, else they will be home for bacteria and fungus. I love to try out strappy loafer or sandals preferably in rubber as they dry out sooner than other materials. Another option that I would like to consider is the ballet flats or flip-flops. A definite no-no for high heels, unless you have a knight in shining armour holding your hand to ensure you fall safely into his arms. A sure shot success would be transparent ones which a few to add colour to the day.

Umbrella
An Umbrella is not a utility item anymore; it is now a fashion accessory that defines you. Throw out the ancestral bulky, heavy, huge umbrella and choose from an ocean full of umbrellas - the playful one that matches your style. Experiment with colours and designs; don’t restrict yourself to just one. Own a collection – bolder brighter and edgy. Colours weather trendy and electrifying, or pastels work great. How about some Neon hues or Colour Block ones too? Abstract designs, geometric shapes, floral prints will stand out in a crowd.

What are your thoughts? How do you plan to hit the monsoon with a stylish vengeance?

Share your essentials with me.

This Sunday evening on my way home from a weekend out with family, my phone beeped. I checked and it was a message from a fellow blogger Megha Shrimali, tagging me to a contest celebrating FabAlley's First Birthday. Scrolling forward I thought... "Style a Celeb" what a dream contest. However, time was running out as it was the last day and the watch was already ticking towards 8.30 pm.

Style A Celeb With FabAlley, Blog Contest

With three gorgeous B-town leading ladies in unaccessorised avatars, participants had to tread through FabAlley's collection of accessories and complete the look of one gorgeous girl to take home a fabulous voucher worth Rs. 2500. Of Katrina Kaif in a classic Black n' White formal outfit, Deepika Padukone in a glam red dress and Anushka Sharma in a boho maxi skirt, I chose none other than the stunning Deepika.

Deepika Deepika Deepika ... What does one have to say about her – with a perfect body and a mesmerizing smile this heavenly beauty is capable of rocking any ensemble. Dressed like a diva in a little red dress, what I would prefer is to keep the accessories to a minimum, so she remains the cynosure of all eyes and the attention isn't diverted onto the accessories or the outfit.

I gave her a Multicolour Gem Ear Cuff to add a little colour around the pulled back hairstyle. Instead of adding chunky bracelets or stacks of chain bangles, I preferred to add an elegant DKNY delicate gold watch. Nothing can beat the gorgeous Glitter Back Mary Jane Pumps that add some more height to the stunner. I also added a Gold Spike Bracelet at her ankle to give it an edgy yet coordinated look. And my dainty doll is ready to be the cynosure of all eyes and claim the title iCynosure. And I sent in my entry onto their blog at the nick of time... almost scampering as the clock struck 11.48 pm, just in time. Phew.

And we won!! How would you have styled Deepika? Let me know in the comments below for I’d love to know.

Until then, keep visiting.

Life is like a rainbow where each colour is unique and symbolizes something special, however, when they come together they form a spectrum of misty light that demands awesomeness. Life becomes a rainbow when it is filled with varied emotional variations, upheavals and unexpectedness.

Would there be any life if anyone emotion was missing in it? If sadness is missing we wouldn't appreciate happiness, if pain is missing we wouldn't appreciate pleasure. And to have a particular day repeat itself over and over again for the rest of my life, the day needs to be unbeatable. That day for me is the day -

PRINCESS HEER WAS BORN
 A Letter To My Daughter

What a chaotic day that was, filled with excitement, love, pain, fear, anxiety and much more. I clearly remember the day..... November 17, 2011. Post dinner we went for a walk and I suddenly felt extremely tired. We retired for the night; I remember feeling anxious and uncomfortable-falling in and out of sleep. At around 3.30 my water broke and my husband and mother-in-law rushed me to the hospital. The head nurse did the preliminary checks and suggested some exercises.

In some time I was made comfortable in my room; pillow arranged and asked to rest for a while. The doctor arrived and I was taken to the sonography room for further observation. He seemed happy with the progress I was making and said we will have a beautiful child in our hands in a couple of hours.

My mother arrived and I realized it was well 9 am with over 4 hours already in labour. The doctor came again to check and to lighten the mood he asked... What do you want? I said, a perfectly healthy child. He smiled and asked the nurse to give me some liquid breakfast.

Having read about labour pains and the uneasiness, I was surprised I hardly felt anything except butterflies in my stomach. A few hours passed and after a reexamination, the doctor seemed a tad bit worried. He told my hubby that the baby had moved into the breech position and all was well for a normal delivery however, a lot of fluid was already lost. He suggested that either we could opt for a C-section or wait for a couple of hours to check the contractions for a normal delivery. The only fear was that if I were to lose more fluid, then it could affect the well-being of our baby.

Before anyone would say something, I said we should just do whatever is the best for the baby and go in for C-Section. My mom held my hand and I felt a lot more confident that things would be right. When my mom is here I have nothing to fear, I said. The doctor’s smile broadened and he told the nurse to get the OR ready.

I was wheeled inside at 1.30 pm and I heard the best sound of my life - tiny sobs. The Doctor came close to me and before he could say anything I asked, "How is my princess?" He said, "Healthy and gorgeous, just like her momma". With that, I relaxed.

When I woke up, I saw the best people in my life all gushing over a little miracle, my mom and dad, my mom and dad in law and my hubby. He picked the little doll and brought her to me and the first thing I noticed was that she is a true replica of her daddy.

November 18th, 2011 at 4.00 pm was the first time I held my life in my hands. Everyone stepped out and gave us a few minutes alone with princess. To our amazement, both of us had tears in our eyes and broad smiles.

As the news of the arrival of our princess spread, family and friends poured in every minute. The room was filled with gifts, cards, clothes and so many blessings.

The day was a roller-coaster… from tiredness to anxiety, to relaxation, to fear, to pain and finally immense happiness. For the first time, I realized qualities I never thought I possessed…. compassion, strength, tenderness, weakness, worship and above all UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!

I Love You, My Princess,

Getting Ramp Ready... who ME? Wow, that sounds awesome, especially for me who once was a little girl with the shortest hair in class, who once was thought to be a boy and who once hated everything about herself. Then college happened and everything changed. I wanted all great things for myself and did a lot of experimenting.

A visit to Nalini and Yasmin's the Salon, changed the way I looked at my haircare routine. A few sittings with Yasmin and my hair was the crown I had never worn before. From sleek hairstyles to high ponytails to letting it loose, I did it all and enjoyed myself.

TRESemmé Smooth and Shine shampoo and conditioner review

TRESemmé Smooth and Shine range was recommended to me by a stylist friend. And thus the journey to experiment each day began. I started to wear my hair differently be it a simple movie outing, or the annual office dinner or a cosy date with my beloved, each time my hair looked different. Though some styles were not successful, it kept me interested.

A few days ago a link sent to me via a social networking site, drew me in. I poised myself in front of my dressing table, hauled the laptop on a chair nearby and followed the Style Guide. With all the experiments in the past, I never thought about being anywhere near the RAMP.

TRESemmé India YouTube Channel compelled me to show the world my RAMP READY SELF. For my straight hair, the professionals recommend the TRESemmé Smooth and Shine range, which I already use. And now to the styles - Balloon Ponytail, Butterfly Ponytail and Twisted Hairband. I tried all three and loved the look, which am sure I shall soon incorporate into my daily routine as they are so simple and yet alluring. However going a step further, I have my own version of being RAMP READY... I call it the Beehive Ponytail…

I think it looked great. What’s your take? Let me know in the comments below.

A Poetry For My Mom

Last night I was tossing and turning in bed and I just couldn’t figure out what the matter was. I finally got up and hit pen to paper. The words just poured onto the page which left me a bit-teary eyed, wondering whether I had really written these beautiful words.

And then I realized I didn’t write them myself, the words were drawn out of me by the woman who gave me life, nurtured me and helped me be the person I am today.

Dearest Momma,
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you pray and I believed in God.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you help others and I learnt to share.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I smelled fresh cookies and I tried to cook.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I tasted your tears and I found the courage to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss and I learnt to express love.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked and looked,
And today I am just an extension of your loveliness.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom! I Love You!
