Dreams I believe have no limitations, dreams are not constraint by the status of an individual. Dreams are those little feathers that we keep blowing high into the sky wishing they never fall to the ground. I truly realised what dreams are when I first held my #PrincessHeer in my arms. In that single moment, I promised to give her the world, the best of everything. Isn’t this what all parents promise? Absolutely. That's what parenthood is all about.

However not every parent is blessed with the means to provide for their kids, and it breaks my heart to know that children who ought to be in school studying, be out in the playground running around, are forced to drop out of school. Girl kids are pushed into marriage at an early age while boys are packed off to work and contribute to the family income. Is this what we visualise for them? Is this what society visualises for them? NO!

Thankfully, many brands are now participating in impactful programmes that cater to the overall development of children. One such effective initiative is the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme; that aims to raise nutrition and health knowledge among communities and promote physical activity among school-age children. The impressive aspect of the #HealthyKids initiative remains that Nestle India has adopted a multi-partnership approach and roped in expert partners who develop relevant material and curricula to meet the specific needs of local communities.

Nestle has partnered with Magic Bus in India for the #HealthyKids programme, which works on the Sports for Development approach; making learning fun and interesting. Sport acts as a magnet for children, making recruiting them within the programme much easier and long term. It serves as a drawcard that focuses on delivering the right messages to participants via involvement, participation and finally connecting the actions with daily activities. Sports is vital to the holistic development of children, fostering physical, social and emotional health and that's what is the vision of this programme.

Not only does Nestlé spearhead the programme but also follow an inclusive approach with staff volunteers participating in the activities with the NGO partners. Steadily the programme is making headway into the system with over 500 staff members impacting the lives of over 10 thousands children in Mumbai and over 75 thousand across the country. Through the programme Nestlé is actively working with close to 300 partners in 80 countries, to improve the nutrition, health and wellness of children.

Early this week, Nestlé invited iCynosure to be part of one of their interactive session in Mankhurd, Mumbai and the experience has been breath-taking. I was removed from my fantasy world and given a whiff of reality, where children brighten up any environment through their innocence and zeal, and above all their willingness to learn. After a couple of hours just being around them I realised that the broad smiles and birth of confidence comes with inclusiveness and we must all get together to build a nation where all children are #HealthyKids.

Until next time,
- Heena

How will you be celebrating New Year’s Eve? If you’re like most people, you’ll probably find yourself wearing a dressy gown and sipping champagne while pretending to be enjoying a rather dull party around midnight. Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with bubbly alcoholic and fancy outfits, you can add some variety to your usual New Year’s Eve celebration by revisiting some of the many movies that feature stories on the theme.

While there are probably hundreds, if not thousands of films that have been made with plots revolving around New Year’s Eve, we’ve listed down a few in honour of the traditional pre-midnight countdown, in no particular order…
Sleepless in Seattle
Synopsis: Realising that Sam has still not come to terms with his wife Maggie's death, his eight-year-old son Jonah forces him to call a national radio talk show, with the hopes of finding him a companion.
iCynosure Reviews: A romantic love story in which a recently-widowed protagonist’s son calls a radio talk show in an attempt to look for a new partner for his father, which ends in a gorgeous lady losing her heart to him. Believing they are destined to be together, she sets out for Seattle to meet the protagonist. And the beautiful happy ending will make you believe in love all over again.

The Godfather, Part II
Synopsis: Michael, Vito Corleone's son, attempts to expand his family's crime empire. While he strikes a business deal with gangster Hyman Roth, he is unaware of the dangers he has gotten himself into.
iCynosure Reviews: The follow-up to ‘The Godfather’ features one of the most memorable New Year’s Eve kisses ever shown onscreen, with a twist. When the protagonist realises that he has been betrayed by none other than his own brother he seals the deal with a kiss of death telling him, “I know it was you, you broke my heart.” It's a scene that will truly break your heart.

When Harry Met Sally
Synopsis: A chance encounter between two graduates culminates in a short-term friendship. But when fate brings them together five years later, they are forced to deal with how they feel about each other.
iCynosure Reviews: A perfectly romantic saga of two friends who fear sex would ruin their friendship. Finally, when the protagonist confesses his deep love, he leaves all hearts fluttering with his beautiful words… ''It's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve, I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible". Isn't that absolutely beautiful, something every girl wants to hear.

The Bridges of Madison County
Synopsis: Francesca's typical married life takes a positive turn when she decides to help new-in-town Robert to discover Iowa. Her short-term romance with him makes a beautiful unforgettable anecdote.
iCynosure Reviews: A tear-jerker of a brief, illicit love affair between an Iowa housewife and a freelance photographer is beautifully shown in this romantic movie. The globetrotting National Geographic photographer journeys Madison County to photograph its bridges and encounters a bored housewife who willingly takes him around. A four-day affair that changes them both chronicled in a diary is finally found by her grown-up children, to reminisce the super gorgeous moments between the leads.

Pretty Woman
Synopsis: A rich entrepreneur hires a prostitute to accompany him to a few social events. Trouble brews when he falls in love with her and they try to bridge the gap between their worlds.
iCynosure Reviews: Just watch it, if you haven’t.

The best thing about the winter season is flaunting some cute and comfy winter outfits and feeling all cuddly and warm. But when it comes to maintaining them, it becomes a very daunting task. Washing them is not the easiest thing to do and even the cleaning and drying clothes takes a lot of time and energy. With some clothes that cannot be washed in a washing machine and requires manual intervention, it becomes worst.

Even with winter clothes that are allowed the tumble wash in the washing machines, we are still faced with the mammoth task of drying them. However most of us may think that surely there are washing machines that come with dryers, however going by past experience one cannot completely rely on them.

Trust me, it does not end there. The most difficult part is yet to come, folding the clothes in a systematic manner. I know so many people who absolutely hate this task. I agree with the fact that it is one of the most boring tasks and moreover, most of us can’t even do it right.

So what can be the right solution?

Well, the simple and straight-forward answer is outsourcing the laundry to the modern-day dhobiwalas.

LaundroKart is one such laundry app that one can try and be satisfied with the service; with experience. Be it your most expensive leather jacket to a simple woollen sweater, LaundroKart takes care of each of them. The USP of LaundroKart is that they carry away your dirty clothes and turn them in as good as new and super fresh; at a very reasonable price. What do you do when you receive an invite that offers a wine and cheese evening with a renowned artist with in-depth understanding of Indian Art? For someone like me who is an art lover, simply jump in joy and reply in acceptance.  However if you get to know that the artist is the talented, alumnus of Sir JJ School of Arts, Brinda Miller; all you can do is remain spellbound. And for the uninitiated, Brinda is one of the most respected names in the Indian art scene with over 15 solo exhibitions and is the creative, non-executive member of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival organising committee.

As I headed to Baaya Designs, I couldn’t contain my excitement. The rendezvous was spearheaded by Shibani Jain, a NID Ahmedabad alumnus and the Founder and CEO of Baaya Designs. Baaya Design is the most revered address in Mumbai for its unmatched craftsmanship that speaks volumes of how India’s old age exquisite art and craft is moulded to suit the modern day demands, making it one of the kind for both art practitioner and connoisseurs and art lovers. In its unique way Baaya Design Studio offers a range of Tribal and Traditional Art, Art Installations, Murals, Furniture and Accessories transforming living spaces into artistic environments.

#BrindaSelects was the flavour of the evening with Brinda that enlightening me about Indian art forms, the importance of a balance between art and crafts and an artist’s insight into the thought-process while creating a piece of art. During the discussion a couple of really important points that’s stood out were how modern day artists are inculcating the traditional arts into more habitable options of craft projects and the need for artists to collaborate with each other to create magical pieces that add an element of exclusivity.

Just as Brinda mentioned that each piece of art has a different interpretation for every person who looks at it, in a similar way each piece speaks to every personal differently giving them an insight of their personality. With the limited amount of knowledge I have about Indian arts, a few forms that really connect with me are the Mata ni Pachedi and now the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life in its various forms is recognized as a symbol of immortality and eternal life that is classified by the symbols (Air, Water, Earth, Fire) it projects, the powers (Healing, Rejuvenation, Sustenance) it commands and the magic (Telepathy, Osmosis, Communication) it exudes.

Yes, each art form is so intricate and with multiple layers of understanding. If you too like me are interested in learning more about each art form you can participate in the walk-through sessions that is organised at Baaya Design on the first Saturday of each month, to know more email them at info@baayadesign.com.

Let art meet craft,

My gorgeous little one was to turn FIVE on the 18th of November and I was looking forward to celebrating the day with her all dressed up in a beautiful gown, true princess style. I expected her to want a Barbie themed party or even Sofia the First; however to my surprise she looked at me while watching Disney and chose PJ Masks. I thought the sweet little babe of mine would forget all about it the next day; but she got talking about the décor, costume and much more.

She seemed obsessed with PJ Masks, especially Owlette a red-eyed girl who transforms into an Owl wearing a red costume with cape-like wings and moves around in an Owl Glider. I smiled and got working. What I didn’t realise was that PJ Masks stuff is hard to come by, they have no decorations or toys, not even at the Disney Store or any other place in a city like Mumbai. So huge preparations began amidst the chaos for my little Owlette! As it’s a new show, I hardly know anything about it, but #PrincessHeer filled me in completely. We got creative, worked with what we had available and called on a few favours from friends.

We found a local costume shop willing to make a costume in 3 days, and then I called upon a friend based in the US to send us the figurines for the cake and the Owlette mask. A dear friend Ruchika who is a home baker at ChocoRika, agreed to make the cake as per the birthday girl’s suggestions n requests. No soon this was confirmed, we sent out the invites. For the décor we stuck with the blue, green and red theme to represent Catboy, Owlette and Gecko with balloons, character cut-outs and streamers. We printed and cut-out a ton of wristbands and punch gloves for all the kids to wear. The food was managed by the restobar Brass Monkey and they did a fine job of it; while the pictures were taken by Rutik Shah.

I insisted that she change into a dress for the cake-cutting and she readily agreed. All in all the party turned out to be great, mind you the post is image heavy.

What do you think? Did we do well?
