Everyone has a dream, but very few are willing to truly chase a dream. I have seen that willingness, that zeal and that perseverance in Heer. Her choices over the years have been out of the box for a child her age. At times I did want to caution her for the fear of her not being able to achieve what she wanted. But I have tried to be supportive as I've always been amazed at her ambition to get better and her onus to complete.

Over the years she has shown interest in performing arts and music. I have let her pursue what she wanted by discussing the pros and cons, the future and more. She has always been extremely keen in learning and performing ballet and a musical instrument over the years. Last year, she has taken great strides in her ballet class and has gone on to perform with her ballet group too.

However, music education on the whole had taken a back seat for a while and we wanted her to pursue this interest as music plays a very important part in a child’s development. Research even shows that children exposed to music training from an early childhood develop an interest in exploring, they speak more clearly, have a larger vocabulary and have strong social-emotional skills. The psychologist Howard Gardner also pegged music intelligence above logical and emotional intelligence as it has the ability to strengthen the bond between the mind and the body.

We finally decided to trade her tiny little pink toy keyboard for a portable Roland E-X30 Arranger Keyboard. Investing in a piano is a huge decision and after scrutiny, we picked the Roland E-X30 Arranger Keyboard for its high-quality sounds that are ideal for music lessons. This keyboard seems to be a beautiful blend between western and Indian music as it has wide range of both Indian and western sounds and rhythms. Roland is also planning to provide local music styles for Roland E-X30 in future.

A keyboard - contrary to what people believe - is a relatively easy, interesting and social instrument to include in a child’s learning. It helps build a child’s musical expression and creativity, develop technique and rhythm while letting children play and create full-band performances. Roland E-X30 with features like a portability, onboard speakers and battery operation is convenient to carry anywhere.

I’ve seen my little girl blossom as the keyboard has sparked her passion and curiosity for music. She keeps setting her musical goals and revisits them from time to time. I think as a mother while I encourage her to chase her dream and soar high into the sky, my instinct also ensures that I keep her grounded and raise her as an individual true to herself. And as she gets older and begins to fine-tune her dreams, I shall help her keep an honest eye on reality which shall become her greatest assets in understanding who she is, what is she doing, where she is going, and how she will get there.

Let me know in the comments below how do you as a parent help in your child’s dream?

Until next time,

Lets put the fun in the festive season,
Enjoy the day out doing exciting things,
Forget who you are to be a little one!

Wondering how to keep the kids engaged this festive season! Don’t look any further, head straight to the Krazy Kids Karnival that promises a lot of fun, entertainment and shopping.

Spread over 2 acres of open spaces in the heart of Mumbai city, the carnival boasts of interactive learning workshops, amazing live shows, dramatic amusements and adventure camps for the kids, while parents can indulge in pop up shops, lip-snaking food and desserts and above all an array of shopping experiences. Aimed at children between the age group of 0-12 years, the carnival promises a range of fun things including rides and activities with their favourite characters Chota Bheem, Doraemon, Gajju Bhai, Chacha Bhatija, Guru Aur Bhole and their gangs.

The carnival of non-stop excitement will definitely put a smile on the little ones faces, especially those less fortunate, who will enjoy free pick up and drop, admission, rides, F&B and entertainment on the 16th. This initiative is for specially invited children from various NGO’s across Mumbai.

So plan your days already for some down-time with your little ones.

The holiday season is on and every time my phone rings displaying 'Home', I get panic attacks. Most of the calls begin with my little one announcing 'Mom, I'm so bored!', and if for every time she said this, if someone gave me a nickel, I sure would be a rich momma. Nevertheless, what can I really do to ensure #PrincessHeer is engaged during her summer vacations without having to step out too much in the heat? So this weekend I sat down and created a list of activities that she can enjoy without the need to be glued to the idiot box for the entire day.

Indoor Games

A competitive and time-consuming activity during the summer holiday is to spread out board games and challenge friends to play for hours. And that's the first thing I'm you should be doing with your little ones. Give them a boost of creative fun with some interesting jigsaw puzzles, Lego sets, or word Scrabble to set her mind racing or even a few hours in the play zone.

Drawing and Colouring
Fun activities like drawing or colouring are the most inexpensive form of a game to engage hyperactive children. Order a few books, paints, colours, stencils and free the little minds to envisage and create a visual delight. Sketching, drawing, and colouring are stress-busting activities that no child will tire of.

Crafts
One quality that Heer has inherited from me is my love for craft projects. There are a number of ways crafts can be included in day-to-day activities for not only probing a mind but also enhancing imagination. So go ahead order some crafts supplies and sit with your little ones to get started on some basic DIYs and recycling projects.

Reading
The best gift you can ever give a child is read to them. This simple act not only gives you both time to bond but also pips her curiosity, sowing the reading seed in their mind. Reading usually becomes a stepping stone to other activities that interest children. So bring out your childhood books and relive the stories with your little ones.

Water Games
Water is the best escape in the summers and children love to indulge in water games. The easiest way would be to enrol kids in swimming classes that would club fun with some form of exercise to rejuvenate them. Alternatively, bubble baths are another sure shot way to engage kids and keep them busy for a long time.

Hobby Class
It is very easy to gauge what your little one is really interested in and help her take it up as a hobby. Enrol them in classes specific to their interest which could range from singing and dancing to playing an instrument to even cooking or gardening classes. It will be a great experience to see them learn and do what they like.

So to beat the Summer Heat try some of these interesting activities, and share your feedback with me on whether or not the idea worked to keep your little one busy all afternoon

Until next time,
~ Heena

My gorgeous little one was to turn FIVE on the 18th of November and I was looking forward to celebrating the day with her all dressed up in a beautiful gown, true princess style. I expected her to want a Barbie themed party or even Sofia the First; however to my surprise she looked at me while watching Disney and chose PJ Masks. I thought the sweet little babe of mine would forget all about it the next day; but she got talking about the décor, costume and much more.

She seemed obsessed with PJ Masks, especially Owlette a red-eyed girl who transforms into an Owl wearing a red costume with cape-like wings and moves around in an Owl Glider. I smiled and got working. What I didn’t realise was that PJ Masks stuff is hard to come by, they have no decorations or toys, not even at the Disney Store or any other place in a city like Mumbai. So huge preparations began amidst the chaos for my little Owlette! As it’s a new show, I hardly know anything about it, but #PrincessHeer filled me in completely. We got creative, worked with what we had available and called on a few favours from friends.

We found a local costume shop willing to make a costume in 3 days, and then I called upon a friend based in the US to send us the figurines for the cake and the Owlette mask. A dear friend Ruchika who is a home baker at ChocoRika, agreed to make the cake as per the birthday girl’s suggestions n requests. No soon this was confirmed, we sent out the invites. For the décor we stuck with the blue, green and red theme to represent Catboy, Owlette and Gecko with balloons, character cut-outs and streamers. We printed and cut-out a ton of wristbands and punch gloves for all the kids to wear. The food was managed by the restobar Brass Monkey and they did a fine job of it; while the pictures were taken by Rutik Shah.

I insisted that she change into a dress for the cake-cutting and she readily agreed. All in all the party turned out to be great, mind you the post is image heavy.

What do you think? Did we do well?

Who wouldn’t be excited to go to a carnival, and that too when your favourite brand invites you for an evening full of fun, that’s a fantastic mixture of everything amazing. And to top it all, the clincher is that the invite is especially for your little one. Wouldn’t that be spectacular?

At iCynosure we never miss an opportunity to party and with Pepe Jeans throwing a big party, I became a partner in crime with my little one to enjoy the #PepeJeansKidsCarnival. Pepe Jeans organised the Kids Carnival at their flagship store in Santacruz and as we made our way to the store we witness the ambience full of fun bright coloured balloons, photo props, an entertaining line up of activities and lip-smacking food. It was perfect for mommas as kids were entertained while we enjoyed some soothing mock-tails and a gossip session with fellow blogger mommies.

#PrincessHeer was pretty excited, as she was introduced to the group of children and invited to punch a surprise wall to pick a gift that lay in the individual box. Luckily she punched one with a gift and was ecstatic with her achievement. Next up the children were divided into two groups and were to build a castle using the life-size Jenga bricks. It was the most chaotic construction sight one would ever see, but the most fun too. With all the craziness going around us, Heer and I sat tight for a few minutes to get our caricature made.

She soon headed back to the activities and came back winning prize after prize. Finally, we played a couple of coordination activities as a pair and cracked the whip on those as well. At the end of the evening, we headed home not only with some great prizes but also with some amazing memories and a truckload of Pepe merchandise.

What fun we had!
