With the celebrations of Navratri just concluded, and today being the tithi of Poonam, every house is chanting songs at the Mata Ki Chowki celebrations today. While the decoration for the Mata ki Chowki is just like any other celebration, one thing that takes centre stage is the Mata ni Pachedi. Literally translated as 'behind the mother goddess', Mata ni Pachedi is a natural pure cloth that constitutes a temple of the Mother Goddess.

In the olden days when the nomadic Vaghari community of Gujarat was barred from entering temples and other religious places, they made their own shrines with depictions of the Goddess on a piece of cloth. This ingenious solution is believed to be the origin of Mata ni Pachedi, the sacred art.

Traditionally, red is the main colour of the paintings, the mother goddess dominates the painting with stories laden with numerous characters and motifs in the background. In Gujarat, artisans make these paintings using the same methods used traditionally, using natural colours and dyes.

Mata ni Pachedi is also known as the “Kalamkari of Gujarat”, owing to its similarity with the Kalamkari practised in Southern India and the use of pens (kalam) fashioned out of bamboo sticks, for painting. The Process is, a cotton fabric is first de-starched and then treated with Harada paste, to prepare it for absorbing the colour. Outlines of the figures are painted first. After this, red colour extracted from tamarind seeds, is filled in and the areas supposed to be white are left blank. After application of each colour, the fabric is boiled to bring out the colour and then washed in Sabarmati River.  The cloth must be washed in running water only, so that any excess colour flows away, instead of staining the cloth. This is also a way to purify the painting.

While craftsmen are refining this folk craft to suit the changing times, yet the sanctity of this religious artefact remains untouched. Creating Pachedis as well as new illustrations that are relevant in today’s context, but in the same folk style, these craftsmen have remained true to the cause of spreading the glory of the Mother Goddess and her wonderful art.

Creative Snacks From McCain
Taste is one of the strongest sensual pleasures awarded to humans; and so tucking into a juicy kebab, licking on a ice-gola, surpling into that mojito and savouring into that delicious bowl of ice-cream makes it amazing. Food actually effects our minds more than it does our body and hence there is a direct connection between food and happiness. Be it cooking or eating, food sends joy signals to our mind and those create chemical loocha in the body and rewards everyone around with beautiful, gorgeous smiles.

I am extremely particular about everything that is served at home throughout the day, especially when it comes to my little #PrincessHeer. Even when I’ve had a hectic day, I love experimenting in the kitchen and turing raw ingredients into mouthfuls of amazement. The smile never leaves my face throughout… it continues from cooking to serving to relishing my craft.

Yes I say craft, because cooking is an art that first needs to please the eyes; a rule was taught to me by my little one. The toughest time I have feeding her is the snack time… the long hours between lunch and dinner that are a challenge. Over a period I’ve realised that if I put in a bit of extra effort and make the snack look inviting enough I don’t even have to ask her once to have her mid-evening snack. It has been an uphill task but well worth it since my fussy little eater, looks forward to that time of the day which is meant just for the two of us.

Last week when we went to pick the groceries from the hyper-market, #PrincessHeer picked a McCain snack pack, and I was appalled. I am really against frozen meals especially comfort food as they tend to be full of sugar and starch and extremely low on nutrition. But the little monster refused to budge and against my will it was added to the cart.

When we reached home she completely forgot about them and I got some time to read about the product range from McCain. With highest quality wholesome ingredients the products are made Cholesterol and Trans-Fat Free, and pre-cooked in pure vegetable oil. What sealed the deal for me was that I could even bake them and frying them was just another option to explore instead of the only one.

So when #PrincessHeer least expected it, I surprised her with some delicious mashed potatoes, seasoned and shaped into happy faces with my own creative twist. I baked them as directed and the garnished them with some chocolate sauce and a little bit of pistachio paste did the magic. The smiles were transformed into cute Smilie Minions. With #PrincessHeer's favourite cartoon character in her plate, the joy and smile made all my efforts worthwhile.
So go ahead, create some fun snacks with McCain, bite into the wholesome goodness and keep smiling!

Until next time,

It was the day she turned three.

Among a hundred people I was poised to say a few words, when she gestured to me, she wanted to say something. Lifting her to perch her little being on the counter top I handed over the mike. As the words kept flowing in sweet nothings, I recognized the fearless way in which she expressed her feelings about the day and went on to thank the guests for coming. In all that was being said I heard a lot of ‘Like Mother, Like Daughter’ compliments.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

As an independent freelancer, I work from home and I have a unique manner in which I set my desk and arrange my work things. Every morning I begin at my desk with a cup of herbal tea, surf through the manual post that arrives,  respond to emails and then sit back to pen down my thoughts or articulate the steps of the campaign I’m working on. Once I complete the tasks set for the day, I read a little and then take a break. As the day progresses, most of the boxes on the checklist are clicked and I know it’s time to call it a day. As soon as I switch off the computer I clean the screen and the mouse pad, stack up the paperwork, shred the unwanted paper and finally wipe clean my desk. Once I’m done, I head to the living room to tidy it up of the newspapers and magazines; moving them to the recycle basket. Once everything seems in order, I’m ready to sit back and enjoy the evening with my loved ones.

It is widely said that ‘experience is the best teacher’, but I beg to differ and emphasize that now-a-days ‘visual stimulation is the greatest teacher’. Over the last few weeks I slowly but steadily noticed how my daughter did things just the way I would normally do them.
Every day after she comes home from school, she heads straight to her study table and leaves her bag  by the chair. After freshening up, she settles at her study table and drinks her milk while browsing through her activity book. As she slurps her last sip of milk she goes about doing her homework and then marks a couple of ticks on the table calendar. When all seems done, she picks out the date page from her #datta calendar and heads to my desk to shred it. Once she is through she rearranges her desk, swipes it and leaves her bag on the table.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Disconnect With Technology To Discover The Joy Of Togetherness

In this day and age, fast-paced technology has over powered our lives and hence we share one of those passionate love-hate relationships with it. If I take a look closely at how I spend my day, I realise that more than half my day is strung between google, twitter and email and the works of technology.

Every morning I wake up to a nagging want to check my social media platforms, constantly surfing through them and link-following without realise how many precious hours I’ve spent on it without it adding any value to my life. The smart phone is replaced by the television or the computer at various intervals and the hours of the day wither away unnoticed.

However as a mom, I have a responsibility to focus on my child and I’ve come to realise that my unhealthy habits with technology have been easily adopted by my little #PrincessHeer. Now every breakfast session, every home work project there is always a dive into the devices by a little one whose hands should ideally be mucked with mud or by knees that should be grazed by the grass thorns. The subtle yet defining impressions have made me closely monitor how my little one spends her time. The fact remains that even though we are together, we aren’t experiencing the joy of Real Togetherness.

With me running against time and my little one growing up so fast, the moments of real togetherness are more and more difficult to come by. And thus we need to prioritise how we can make the most of the limited time we have to create a bank of memories. Each day is now dedicated to some family time with one meal of the day to be taken together irrespective of our schedules and other commitments.
Getting off our backs we will explore all the fun things together… going to the beach, running against the waves, making sand castles and gorging on ice-creams; getting on our tricycles, riding into the national park, whistling at the birds and singing movie songs; work on a fun project, draw and paint with unusual colours, trace out and cut standees and assemble them together; play card games, cheat a little and win a lot. It doesn’t take a lot to get together just a little more effort and a little technology-withdrawal. Read my poem 'Reconnect, Nature's Way' to know what I mean.

It is important that we realise that technology was meant to bring us together and if and when it fails to do so, leave it behind because technology is here to stay. Learn to laugh together and let the instagram video be a component to it and not the other way round. Shoot that video for you to them roll on the floor laughing remembering the times than actually watching what happens next.

Get real, get together,

When a girl gang meets there are loads of topics discussed from boys to fashion to travel and beauty, to girly gossip and much more. However, the one thing that remains constant in all conversations, between besties or just acquaintances is the status of our crowning glory, our lustrous locks, our HAIR. And then the conversation stirs to scary topics like hair woes, hair care, expert tips and suggestions etc.

Most men stay clear of these conversations for the fear of utter boredom, cliché statements and too-many home remedies. But not the ones at Dabur and the very bold ones at Indiblogger… for they went ahead and organised a ‘Girls-Only’ meet to discuss #FrizzFreeHair. And did we throng to see if they had any solution for us….

Oil Your Way To #FrizzFreeHair With Dabur#PrincessHeer enjoying the #Indiband performance, being photographed by Sujata
Dabur known for its endeavours to constantly reinvent since the last seventy-five years, to satisfy customer needs as per the changing environment has yet again ventured into a new territory with a new ingredient. The company personnel took us through the company history, product developments over the years and how Dabur’s range of Natural and Ayurvedic Hair Care products help you achieve healthy, lustrous and full of life bouncy hair. Dabur has been a pioneer in including great ingredients ranging from Amla to Coconut, and then upgrading to Almond and now Jasmine in their newly launched hair oil.

Oil Your Way To #FrizzFreeHair With DaburThe Dabur Vatika Jasmine Non-Stick Coconut Hair Oil Product Launch
Backed by various hair care products from hair oil to shampoo, you can be assured that the brand has every product to cater to your needs, whatever-it-may-be.

Oil Your Way To #FrizzFreeHair With DaburOur #BabyBlogger #PrincessHeer enjoying a hair wash
Whilst the super-sonic performance, the blogger introductions, the product launch and the sun games, I even managed to bag a shopping voucher during the in-event discussions for my home remedy hair care tip. And that you may think was the highlight of the afternoon, but no there was something much better ahead.

The brand not only talked, but they also walked the talk with a #FrizzFreeHair experience for every girl present. Who wouldn’t like a hair champi with the new Dabur Vatika Jasmine Non-Stick Coconut Hair Oil and then a hair wash with Dabur Vatika Black Shine Shampoo to emerge with a great looking hairstyle... NO GIRL. And trust me when I say that because our little #BabyBlogger was the first to take advantage of the hair styling kiosk to look and feel #FrizzFree with #VatikaJasmine.
So in minutes we headed from #Frizz to #Fantastic hair and armed with the goodie bag the brand ensured we remain #HappyHair even after we were home.

The festival of lights, Diwali is just around the corner and it’s association with illuminations that overcome the darkness of evil comes from the ancient Hindu mythology. People in the northern parts of India celebrate Diwali to mark the return of Lord Rama from the fourteen years of exile while those in southern India celebrate Diwali to rejoice Goddess Durga's triumph over the demon king Narakasura. The victory of good over evil is acknowledged by bringing in light to that overcomes darkness and everything evil.

Every home is lit differently during Diwali and we thought we should bring you some inspiration to light up your homes from the most traditional to the most contemporary ways of light decor.

Its confession time. I was never good in geometry as I felt it wasn’t a flamboyant enough subject. I loved the exaggeration of the French ‘R’ or the alphabet play of Chemistry but Math was always in the shade of grey shade on the study table.

How To Style Geometric Prints, What I Wore
Jeans: Levis 711, Shirt: B:Kind Clothing, Ballerinas: F-Gali

However when you take geometry out of the books and implement in the world of fashion, there is nothing more interesting than the play of shapes. And honestly whenever I now come across a geometric print I’m instantly drawn towards it. Fashion pieces that include a geometric pattern have a great mathematical feel and I feel like a mathematician when I style it appropriately. It seems like the shapes and patterns can overcome the adverse and come together to form a good precision point to grab all the attention.

Geometry is the hottest print this season and you find them everywhere... on outfits, accessories and footwear. And today I am all set to style my gorgeous pair of geometric ballerinas from F-Gali, a brand that promises to splash some colour into your wardrobes with some stylish flat ballets that are perfect for a day-out or a semi-formal outing or even a fun dance date. These fun babies can be paired with just about everything from prints to metallics and even other patterns. However if you are not very experimental then you could play safe with styling them with denims. Denims go with everything and you can never go wrong with them; hence I've played safe with my first tryst with denim on denim.

The timeless and effortless style of denims just got more stunning with these beautifully crafted shoes from the house of F-Gali. To make my adorned feet the focus and make a statement with them I've kept the rest of the look pretty muted, yet delightfully alluring. This look can be easily transcend from day to night with just a gorgeous neckpiece and a statement clutch.

Read The Dance Bible To Ignite Your Passion For Dance

Every year around this time my feet start to move on their own accord.... after all the dancing festival of Navratri reckons. For me dance is more than some sort of exercise, some sport, dance for me is passion. It is something that I worked very hard towards for a very very long time. I started to train when I was just over three years young until I started working, putting every effort-every minute I had into bettering my art. I danced until I became the best dancer I could possibly be.

Unfortunately,  after a point, it not only became difficult to continue with my dance lessons but it even got impossible to practice or learn new styles. With the mismatch in time coordination with dance schools, limited options in dance styles and moving cities I never thought that the magic of dance would ever return in my life; until I found the Dance Bible. In this technologically advanced environment, it is important that information, direction and availability is made simple and accessible for anyone anywhere. And that's what the Dance Bible does exactly.

With over 20 dance styles explained with the utmost detail, including the history and their sub-styles and more importantly how each part of the body is involved in dance is noteworthy. Almost all schools provide knowledge about forms of dance by visual representation and the dance bible too ensures to educate dance enthusiasts via numerous videos, both film and real-life performances. Everything that one would expect from an on-ground school has been inculcated in this virtual dance academy, the dance bible.

However, the platforms does go numerous steps ahead with two significant inclusions, the training schools checklist and the freelancers on the role. As a dance enthusiast, it is such a blessing in disguise that I can from the comfort of my home check the number schools that offer a particular style that I am keen to learn. Depending on how that particular outfit works as per my needs I could either go ahead with the school or then engage with a freelance professional who is willing to train me at my convenience.

Yet another aspect of the platform is the interview section where conversations with renowned performers and trainers are bound to motivate you to reach from one step to another achieving your dance goals. The platform also has a blog that articulates numerous posts about dance and dancers. And if that's not enough, there is a whole list of artists whose biographies trace their journeys from their early childhood to their awards and accolades.

Dance is one thing that I absolutely love, and I miss it dearly. With the Dance Bible platform, I absolutely have a chance to get into my dancing shoes and waltz away.
