The day Lifestyle store launched its Piku collection with lead actress Deepika Padukone, co-star Irrfan Khan and director Shoojit Sircar; I was there to cheer to witness the ethnic fusion collection.

The Melange Collection By Lifestyle, What I Wore

Melange, the in-house ethnic-fusion wear brand by Lifestyle represents the perfect summery kurtas, embellished with intricate Indian motifs, colour blocking and minimal ornamentation. Slated to be paired with straight pants, schiffli laced palazzo and printed scarves; the #PikuMelangeLook captures the subtle elegance of a modern woman firmly rooted in tradition.

With my wardrobe buzzing with color, I went for the simple yet super stylish monochrome kurta from the collection and styled it with an elegant churidar to bring out the gorgeousness of the color-pop border. I fought my urge to replicate the Piku look from the movie using the same combination to stand out in my styling.

The Melange Collection By Lifestyle, What I Wore

The overall outfit so identified with the kind of personality I have … a modern urban girl with a traditional twist. I simply love my jeans and tees and sometimes I venture into the dress-zone as well, however I have kept away from traditional wear because of the hassle and discomfort. However during the launch I was pleasantly surprised that the collection was functional as well as comfortable and trendy. The colors and prints were so summery in fluid fabrics that add character to the overall look.

Styling the kurta was simple, yet I took extreme care to not overdo it even a bit as it would then take away from the beauty of its simplicity.

So, how do you think I look?

Do You #Dare2Stare, Lets Share Our Vision

Life is such a roller coaster ride that sometimes it becomes unpredictable how you would see a certain situation and react to it. Even something positive can be perceived as negative when seen from a tangent, only for the reason that every individual has a different point of view and a different perspective.

Unfortunately I have been the kind of person that always at the negative of things more than the positive. Not because I am a negative sort of a person but because I am more of a self-debating person. There were times when I thought that if there isn’t a negative, it’s a myth and not an actual occurrence.

Yes that’s true, for me a negative was a sign of possibility. And no negative meant any possibility. However, over time I realised the way I saw things was incorrect and thus I needed to correct my vision to see the bright side of things, or more so the right side of things.

One of the few reasons that I found hampered my outlook towards life was actually my vision. I knew I had weak eyes, but I never graduated to wearing spectacles because I thought it would hamper my look. I always wanted to put my best foot forward and look my stylish best and thus I avoided the most natural thing that would help me clear my vision. Finally I chose spectacles to look at the positives that life could offer.

No sooner my physical vision improved, it helped my outlook in life thereby giving me the space to change my perception physically as well as my thought process. With clarity that I found within I looked to enhance the external with upgrading from spectacles to contact lenses. As beautiful as the naked eye, contact lenses allow you to see the world just as it is, in plain or in colored mayhem. With contact lenses comes a higher responsibility of wearing the contact lenses perfectly as well as maintaining them right to ensure the perfect vision. Sometimes artificial help impairs more than it repairs and one must be certain to benefit from it.

Not only do you need to uplift yourself for clearer vision, but also find it in your heart to see without your eye. And above all you need that beauty in your heart to help others clear their vision as well. Sometimes they say to see more with your heart than your eyes. Now close your eyes for a minute and think about a lifetime of this…. Be honest now and answer. … Can you actually live with seeing with your heart than your eyes?

It is a tough question to ask isn’t it? Well I'll make the answer easy for you, lets play a game that we all have played since we were children... I've taken the dare. I lost, not only my dare but also my heart. Such a beautifully woven video to drive home one of the most important aspects of human-kind. Donation.

It's always not about the money, sometimes its the matter of the heart as well. Donation is not giving life, it is creating a life after your own life. Eye Donation is a chance you give your eyes to live and brighten another life. Having taken this challenge, this dare; I have pledged to let my eye see many more days.

What about you, do you dare to take the challenge?

If you lose the dare, sign the pledge to clear the vision for someone to a beautiful tomorrow. And if you win, do the very same.

For a brighter and clearer tomorrow,

It has been my long-standing dream to have a huge collection of earrings. Everyone who has known me knows of my fetish for the ear endearment and has gifted me a pair to add to the stash whatever be the occasion. But as bad luck would have it a few years ago I realized I have a nickel allergy and hence my entire cosmetic jewellery collection is just lying in my closet for others to enjoy. I have been contemplating giving away my treasure, but first I need to replenish it with what suits my skin allergy.

Dazzle with Delicate for Candera Jewellery

My search for the best has taken me from the local goldsmith to the more renowned designers. However, I have never been fully satisfied with the collections which are either too traditional or too modern and if they seem versatile enough they cost a bomb. After a few years of unsuccessful research and failed recommendations, I resigned to having just a few pieces in my jewellery box.

But there is a genie somewhere who seemed to have guessed my only wish and came to my rescue.

As I browsed through a social networking site a few days ago, I came across Candere. A first of its kind premium online jewellery store Candere understands my needs and provides made-to-order solutions keeping my requirements in mind. Every product from the brand comes with Insured Free Shipping, Product Certification, A Lifetime Exchange Policy and an EMI Payment Option. Apart from the super user-friendly shopping warranties, the USP of the product is its bespoke international designs that most appealed to me.

The designs are updated regularly and the collection boasts of both dainty and statement pieces that can be styled in multiple ways. I've picked me a week to begin with.

Looks like this is the season of mobile apps. Recently a huge fashion giant took the bold step of moving from the online world into the apps world to cater to the fashion enthusiasts on the go. Just this morning I attended an event where a Bollywood diva launched her app-based online dance academy to teach, stay fit, and unite through dance.

Does The #MyAirtelApp Appeal To Me, My Review

With everything app-based it was high time a mobile service provider came out with their own app. As I sat thinking I saw the brand new advert for Airtel’s #MyAirtelApp. The My Airtel App is a free customer service app designed for Airtel subscribers for an airtel world on the go. It is available for Prepaid as well as Postpaid users to manage the mobile, broadband, digital television and wallet all through one. The app even allows multiple connections between work, home and office.

Apart from the regular services of checking usage, initiating recharges and bill payments and sending and receiving money, there are loads of other features that make the app all the more attractive to the users.

Guide on the Go
Apart from the normal stuff the app also allows easy of payment and recharging along with a ready reckoner to view payment history and check usage and balance. Personally, the aspect of being able to send requests or raise complaints pertaining to my account via the app sounded the apt for me and would definitely suit my lifestyle. Additionally, the app also alerts you when payments are due when balances are running low and also when there is a new offer that is ideal for your usage.

Deals & Discounts
For the fashion enthusiast in me; I dig deals and discounts, and am hooked to various sites to grab a deal as soon as I see one. Now I don’t need to stay on my toes as the MyAirtelApp provides users with the best deals, discounts and some spectacular offers at the shake of the phone. Sounds perfect, isn't it.

App Personalisation
One thing that really stands out with the MyAirtelApp is the flexibility with which you can personalise the app to your liking. You can save your most frequent tasks or actions on the app home screen as shortcuts and create a personal experience.

I am so pleased with the app that I have been pushing my friends to try it out. And I think you should too. Here’s how -

Does The #MyAirtelApp Appeal To Me, My Review

Go to the airtel.in or the respective app store Google Play, Blackberry App World, Nokia Store or Apple Store to download it. It is available also via an SMS service. Once downloaded the app will launch with a brief introduction with two options to either proceed or take a tour. Once you have taken a tour and proceed further, you will need to register all your Airtel products and then voila you are ready to be amazed.

Do you think an app like #MyAirtelApp would work for you?

Yes I know, I have been cribbing about the Mumbai summers and how the heat is practically killing us; but today I’m taking you on a joyride to a water-theme park that is quickly gaining favor with both family and friends. As the temperatures began to rise we found a perfect getaway from the rustle-bustle of Mumbai in the lap of Khopoli on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway; Aquamagica. Based on the Mykonos theme of Greece, Aquamagica promises a day of twists and turns immersed in aqua fun.

As we set out, #PrincessHeer and me, we were looking forward to an exciting day ahead as mom joined us enroute. On arrival we were taken from Imagica to Aquamagica via bus and assisted to the changing rooms. Once we were ready to hit the park we were upgraded with express passes and taken through the rides that were suitable for my little one. No sooner did we march ahead we noticed how well kept the park was; spaced out individual slides, lifeguards and assistants at every slide and above all clean water.

Aquamagica, Is The Water Park Worth The Hype?
Aquamagica, Is The Water Park Worth The Hype?

Princess was so excited that we headed straight towards the Pirate Bay which is perfect for everyone... the mature lot, the little ones and even the experimenting ones like us. The bay is full of mini-slides and toy characters that attract the children and a couple of less curved slides and tubes that make for a thrilling experience.

Aquamagica, Is The Water Park Worth The Hype?

Once Princess had her fill of the bay next up on the agenda was the lazy pool also known as the Floatsa. Once settled on the float the attendant takes you right into the start point from where you keep floating, doing just about nothing but soaking in the sun. There are water spurts at regular intervals that create an element of lazy fun to enjoy while snoozing your way through the large passage of clear mint colored water.

As we approached the end of the floatsa, we decided to test our adrenaline rush in an open tube slide Splash that had loads of steep turns and bumps followed by the thrill machine Zip Zap Zoom. Mom and I raced down the slide together while an attendant took care of princess. Though we wanted to try the other pulsating and heart racing slides, we had to resign ourselves to the wave pool to calm a visibly upset Princess who wanted to go on the Zoom machine. Sea waves hit the body continuously so we just sat by the man-made shore to enjoy some ice-cream.

With over a dozen slides and pools to enjoy from, the water-park does have something for everyone. And if you are planning your day out to this magical part, here is the drill you need to know before you start planning your day out..

Water park Strengths:
§ Spaced out individual rides
§ Varied rides and slides, no 2 are similar
§ Lifeguards and attendants at every slide
§ Clean and Clear water

Water Park Weaknesses:

§ Limited food options
§ Distance from Mumbai

One thing that I sure want to mention in my experience at the park is about the people working there. From the very start of my day to the end every member of staff that I interacted with made sure I was made comfortable, my requests adhered to and my queries answered. Even after standing in the summer heat every single day, being asked the same question over and over again by visitors; a reply was always accompanied with a smile. It was like they were actually doing everything they could to make our experience more enjoyable and perfect. Their mannerism even when they had to say ‘no to a request’ was filled with regret making us feel more valued.

And for one of the reasons of being in such a great hospitality I’m not done with the fun, I am going back soon to enjoy some of the thrilling rides that I missed out on and say thank you to a few people. If you want a chance to join me, then comment below why I should pick you to join me in my next Aquamagica adventure and you may just get lucky to hop into the bus with us.

Lets #SummerFun,

Remember the times when you needed those statement pieces in your closet, from necklaces to cocktail rings to prized clutches? This season is all about skirts. Having seen some of the most famous celebrities and some amazing fashion bloggers flaunt the new style must-have, I've kind of grown obsessed with skirts.

If you've followed my style experiments, you would have noticed that skirts have hardly been a part of my outings. But I am sure going to alter that imbalance very soon. I've been eyeing some really amazing silhouettes for some time now and even though I am not very sure how these would actually look on my frame I ready to experiment now.

It cannot be denied that wearing skirts is extremely comfortable especially in this crazy Mumbai heat. With the range of options available now, skirts are no longer just girly-girl items of clothing, they now also cater to fit a wide range of styles from that sweet girl-next-door-look to a power packed professional.

So I am all set to stock up on these wardrobe essentials…

5 Essential Skirts Every Woman Must Own
Maxi Skirt
A full-length skirt looks great on all body types and so that the first one I’m going to get for myself. I've been contemplating a flowvy number or a body con with a slit on either one or both sides to flaunt a bit of skin.

5 Essential Skirts Every Woman Must Own
Circle Skirt
This has been on my lust-list for a very long time but I never thought I could carry it off. Now the days of being over judgmental are over and so a circle skirt that accentuated the curves is coming straight into the shopping cart.

5 Essential Skirts Every Woman Must Own
Pencil Skirt
Though technical my professional days are on hold, the pencil skirt is a classic must-have statement piece. I love the fact that it can take you from fun to serious and vice versa in seconds.

5 Essential Skirts Every Woman Must Own
Midi Skirt
For those not comfortable in either a maxi or a mini can opt for a mixed length number. Midi skirts are a classic choice to look dressed up anytime with a pair of super heels and a plain top.

5 Essential Skirts Every Woman Must Own
Mini Skirt
Living in Mumbai means more sunny days than anywhere else and so it makes ultimate sense to invest in a versatile mini skirt. A fun length skort that’s a mix of a skirt and shorts adds character to the overall style.

These gorgeous numbers are making it to my shopping cart today. What skirts are you eyeing this season? Click here to check the entire collection and if any particular one catches your fancy leave a link in the comments, we may surprise you.

Start skirting around,

Stepping Into Motherhood To Create A Lifetime Of Memories

Motherhood is a rainbow where each color is unique and symbolizes something special, however when they come together they form a spectrum of misty light that is awesomeness. This motherhood rainbow is created with varied emotional variations, upheavals and unexpectedness.

And I welcomed my rainbow from the horizon into my sky on a chaotic day that was filled with excitement, fear, pain, anxiety and a lot of love. It was November 18th, 2011 at around 3.30 am when my water broke and my husband and mother-in-law rushed me to the hospital. The head nurse did the preliminary checks and suggested some exercises.

In some time I was made comfortable in my room; pillow arranged around making me as comfortable as they could. The doctor arrived and I was taken to the sonography room for further observation. He seemed happy with the progress I was making and said we will have a beautiful child in our hands in a couple of hours.

As my mother arrived and I realized it was well over 6 hours with me being in over 4 hours of labor. Having read about labor pains and the uneasiness, I was surprised I hardly felt anything except butterflies in my stomach. A few hours passed and after a couple of re-examinations the doctor seemed a tad bit worried. He told my hubby that the baby had moved into the breech position and all was well for a normal delivery however a lot of fluid was already lost. He suggested that either we could opt for a C-section or wait for a couple of hours to check the contractions for a normal delivery. The only fear was that if I were to lose more fluid, then it could affect the well-being of our baby.

Without wasting anytime I was wheeled inside the OR at 1.30 pm and I heard the best sound of my life - tiny sobs in less than 15 minutes. Fully conscious of what was happening I asked "How is my princess?" The doctor smiled and replied, "Healthy and gorgeous, just like her momma". I relaxed.

When I woke up, I saw some of the best people in my life all gushing over a little miracle. As my husband realised I had woken up he picked my little doll and brought her to me.

November 18th, 2011 at 4.00 pm was the first time I held my life in my hands. The first thing I noticed was that she was a true replica of her daddy; to our amazement both of us had broad smiles contrasting the tears in our eyes.

The day was a roller-coaster that took me from a wife to a momma. For the first time I realized qualities I never thought I possessed… strength, tenderness, weakness, worship and above all UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!

The day that will remain etched in my memory till the last breathe I take, the day I received the best blessing I could, the blessing of motherhood. Thank you princess for being my miracle, for choosing me as your mother!

I Love You My Princess,
~ Momma

The Only Expert I Know; #MyFirstExpert Mum

We were at the threshold of a new century and I turned a new age milestone and started a new phase of life. An age and status when you believe that you know everything, you think you understand everything and you behave as per the situation. But I couldn't have been more wrong.

We got to know that mom had bagged the ‘Woman of the Year’ award for which she was reluctant to give a speech. We coaxed her to take the audience through her journey, writing a brief for her to follow and she practiced the speech numerous times….

“Armed with an MA in the late 70's, I went on to become a teacher to fulfill my aspirations of being a change initiator. Motivated not only by my parents but also my favorite literature professor I excelled in my profession, quickly moving on to become the youngest Vice Principal of the school. Marriage and motherhood added springs to my feet and I moved from strength to strength career-wise. Content with what life had blessed me with I wanted to enjoy motherhood. Thus began my best career phase... full-time mommy and wife. Travelling all over with my husband I developed an interest in handicrafts and started a small business venture. As the venture tasted success, delegating responsibilities on the women I decided to go back to my first love. Volunteering with Teach India I am revisiting my past to shape and initiate change in the lives of under-privileged children. It’s an honor being nominated as the Woman of the Year award by the Mumbai Kutchi Jain community and bagging it for what I love doing."

When she rehearsed it, it sounded perfect as we cheered her from around the dining table and then the D-Day arrived.

As she walked up on stage I could hear the soft caresses of her georgette saree and the tic-tac of her little kitten heels. The overhead light caught the diamond on her ring as she greeted the audience. Amidst all the cheering and the clapping I heard whispers of her beauty, her commitment and her zeal to help others. I looked around and felt myself rising above the ordinary in the adulation showered. Just as my husband gently tapped me on my shoulder and pointed onto the stage, my MOM began to speak.

I knew what she was to say, however when she took to the mike she hesitated. In the few seconds that passed I sent out a silent prayer as she began speaking, "The seasons of life offered me varied opportunities which I grabbed with both hands. The weather chose to shine on me through infinite love and I basked in the sunshine of what I love to do. Whether teaching a student a geometric evaluation, my children the values of life, the business partners marketing techniques or my house help a particular dish - It’s never been about work. Teaching is my inspiration, to be the best I can ever be. Thank you for this. It truly belongs to everyone who was willing to learn, for without them I'd be incomplete.”

In the thunderous response that followed, my mom taught me how greatness lives in humbleness. I blinked as I couldn't see clearly. Pearls of water were clouding my eyes and through those a diamond shone bright and beautiful, #MyFirstExpert, my mom.

Sitting in the auditorium I learnt the most important lesson of all, that no matter how mature I get, there is always something I can learn from my mom. She was, is and will always be the only 'Expert' I’d need in my lifetime.

So who is your go-to expert?

Flipkart, My Genie At A Click Of A Button

I was at my desk doing some work and boom what do I see right in front of me; a GENIE!

He smiled his cutest bubbly smile and thanked me repeatedly. Confused about the entire situation, I kind of pinched myself in the arm. I winced. I am awake I thought to myself and rubbed my eyes gently.

Still nothing changed; the cubby mini-fellow was sitting alongside my keyboard and looking at me and smiling broadly. He looked at me and winked… You get three wishes for saving my life… Wish away he said. I continued to stare at him and summed up some courage to say, “Why three? That was centuries ago, today women want so much more. I want six wishes. If you truly are a Wish-Genie grant me a super six combo”.  An array of funny expressions played onto his face and then after numerous precious second he said ‘Granted’.

Excited I started thinking about what all I could wish for… And I began with much enthusiasm and said.

  • I want special access to every product in the world, at a better price with the quickest delivery much before anyone else in the world has any inclination about it …..
  • I want a zillion options of the same thing before I decide what the best one for me to get is …..
  • I also want some super deals and offers for the day that beat anything and everything all around the world….
  • I would be absolutely fascinated if I was also offered an easy installment payment facility for products I so want to buy but don’t have the money for…
  • And then I would love a hassle free cancellation and returns policy so I am not stuck with something I don’t want…
  • Finally if there is a ready place to explore my creative side and retail products that I make would be the icing on the cake…
As I stood there dreaming away, I head a thunderous laughter that shook the house. That small little fellow was yellowing around almost rolling on the floor. As soon as he saw creases forming on my forehead he stood up… “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride and I could do that. But why the hell did you waste all your wishes when you have FLIPKART that does all of this without needing any of my intervention?”

No sooner did he say that I saw my little princess surfing on my mobile watching the #EveryWishFulfilled advert by Flipkart. As we sat watching the advert together we smiled our way through. We loved the infusion of animation within the advert and the cute cuddly wish man. The advert is so true to a real life scenario where the Wish Man ensures all our wishes come true.

With a Wish Man from Flipkart who would need any Genie? So off I go to wishing some more.

Happy Shopping,

Lets Vote To #CrashThePepsiIPL

With the folks at the IPL arranging the marriage between the two ultimate in the country Cricket and Entertainment, it is nothing short of awe storming. Then with the 30 second Pepsi commercial campaign heating up, everyone is going to strive really hard to achieve the ultimate spot on the idiot box.

But how do you decide? Cause if there is one judge there is a single winner… but with more, there tends to be different choices. So in a democratic country like India ‘Voting’ becomes the go-to option but would voting to check creativity be right? Right or Not.. that’s the way for every single entry to have an equal opportunity to strike gold!

In my post for #CrashThePepsiIPL ‘Honey Lets Watch The Commercials First’ I outlined one of the silliest situations that is explored for commercials that remains completely unrelated to the products anyways. In my next post for #CrashThePepsiIPL ‘See the Pepsi IPL Action off the Field’ I spoke about some of the really well made commercials that sure deserve to be in the top spots for the campaign.

And in this very post I am going to use the power vested in me by Blogadda to vote for the best ads in the #CrashThePepsiIPL activity from 8th May to 14th May. And why should you go out there and vote for your favorite ads? Because the final winning People’s Choice Pepsi IPL Ad will be featured on television during the last leg of the IPL this season and thus you need to make your choice now.

Off the 5 Winning adverts I really liked Served by Nikita Deshpande.

This short 30 second commercials takes you visually through to all the IPL teams homes by way of mouth-watering dishes from the region. The music and the audio by way of the commentary beautifully set the stage for an IPL clincher and take the craze to the whole new level. Just like it is difficult to pick one favorite from among the teams it definitely becomes very difficult to pick just one dish from the amazing spread on the table. But pick whatever you may, you have to end it with a Pepsi, isn't that the most apt advert for the campaign. My vote definitely goes to this one.

My second vote goes to the super cute ad Pepsi Buddies by Muni Agarwal.

I just love this advert for the friendship in it, the sweetness, the prank, the naughtiness and the thrill. Though it hasn't won the judges vote for reasons unknown, I definitely will vote it up for sure.

If you agree with my choices just head straight to #CrashThePepsiIPL and vote for these else choose the ones you think deserve to win and exercise your right to vote.

Happy Voting,
~ Heena

Kapi Dev Launches #EkNayiLeague

Cricket dominates everything Indian. A sport that has the ability to wake people up in the middle of the night to watch their beloved game or rush back from work to catch the crucial few overs.

People suffer setbacks with a single run out or a single run scored and attain nirvana with a single hit over the border line or a close stumping. This craze has translated from the Tests to One Dayers and have now upgraded to the T-20’s. Since International and Domestic cricket didn't suffice the hungry cricket playing cricket watching nation, we ventured out into the Cricketing Leagues.

Not only is the game considered sacred but the players are nothing less than god-like to people. When players delight there is no limit to what the people may shower them with. Do you remember the moment when the all-time great Kapil Dev lifted the Cricket World Cup in 1983? I don’t because I was so little, I didn't even walk then. But I can conjure the image of it in mind whenever I want because I have seen it so many times.

So when the same man who won a billion hearts in the one moment announces something incredible in the nation’s favorite sport, every Indian will stop in their tracks and listen. #EkNayiLeague meaning A New League has had me pondering as well. Cricket enthusiasts have been creating a ruckus on social media with their thoughts, ideas and even bets on what the new concept would be. There is hardly anything that the super cool brand custodian Kapil Dev gives away in his videos.

Having seen some of them on repeat there were a few things that stood out in parts…
. If you play the game with your heart, you are bound to lose…
. Stars players never retire…
. Indian Women Players make Indian so proud….
. Coming soon, a very very unique and different league….

It surely is very confusing. What could a new league be all about?

Thoughts have created a robust confusion in the mind from ideas like a parallel men’s league to a basic training league to a celebrity league, or a senior players league to a women’s league. Gosh it’s so confusing!

Maybe it’s not even cricket, and could be a league for our national sport hockey, or for a more competitive game like football. Whatever league it is, it has to be about a group of people and not just one person… So sports like tennis, badminton, swimming, wrestling etc etc don’t stand a chance.

It could be non-sports related I thought but how can it be? But it does seem valid…. If it is about money you will never play it with your heart, you will use your brains. Star players will never retire from the game, in fact the older they get, they become more and more invincible. And women players do really well as well in the monetary genre. So that settles it, the #EkNayiLeague has got to be something to do with money! And that’s my guess.

What's yours? Leave me your comments!
